VERY nice work on the fuselage band, Amigo! Masking that curved fuselage is extremely challenging and you pulled it off beautifully. I know that once you've done all the touch up, it'll look sharp as a tack.

My weekend/off rotation has been spent working on the engine and a failed attempt at using Anchors for the rigging. Lets start with the anchors. I used Bobs wire anchors and superglued them into my pre drilled holes. This was achore for me as my eyesight just isn't that good. Once I had them installed in the upper wing I ran some monofilament through the loop. The slightest amount of pressure pulled the anchor out. Now I KNOW this is MY FAULT but I decided to just go with what I am familiar with... so I pulled all of the anchors out with little difficulty. Next up the Engine. First I ordered Taurus parts for the Mercedes... Yep I ordered them for the DIII instead of the DIIa/AU. So I used just the Valve Springs and figured I would use the rest in the future for One of My other(Roden), Albatros builds. I had all of the springs attached as well as the lifters. I actually had the firing order correct also. Then I began to break off as many as I had installed. In the end I used almost 2 sets of springs and All of my lifters. Looks OK but not as I had intended. Finally the plug wires and plugs. These are IMPRESSIONIST modeling. make it look close enough using smoke and mirrors

As the last photos will show not much will be seen. Weathering is artists oils.

Beautiful-looking engine. I dare telling so, as the D-III is the only WWI engine I know in details a bit, at the moment...
I'm currently trying to inspire from your shading on the lozenges, using oils too. But it looks like my lozenges were too dark prior I started so the shading doesn't show up that much...Guess I should have applied some matt varnish or find a way to fade-out the lozenges first?

Fantastic work on the engine, Amigo! Sorry about the anchors. I always have a few pull out on each of my builds. I just re-drill the hole, twist a new eyelet, and glue it back in. I made up a special drill just for that purpose: a bamboo skewer with a no.80 bit glued into the end of it. Looking forward to the next update.

You've overcome a few minor set-backs very nicely here Rick. There's nothing quite as nasty as that sinking feeling when you tighten the inevitable, (in my case), last or second last run of the Rigging Sequence and the line goes "Pop............slack"! As I often say, if the odds are 50/50 I'll lose nine times out of ten! I'm wondering in this case if you haven't experienced a bad or deteriorated batch of CA? Normally they weld in very well with minimum glue; I've broken the odd loop and in trying to remove it for replacement found it near impossible to get the shaft out, had to drill a new hole beside it..
Nice fix on the engine as well; I've switched Merc. versions for the same reason and, in many cases, the version installed is speculative anyway. Great Thread, I'm enjoying following your progress and some really pretty work thus far.
