Absolutely beautiful woodwork on the fuselage Rick, one of the best I have ever seen.

Truly remarkable work, Rick!  Everything from the subtle yellow wood tones to the lozenge is brilliant.
Cheers,
Bud

Beautiful job! How did you get the shading on each side of the ribs? did you mask the ribs using masking tape then oversprayed with clear black or "smoke"? I ask because I saw people doing so on camo'ed wings, but didn't know you could do it on lozenge-covered surfaces.

Rick,

Agree with everybody else here -

I still really like the light wood tone you have achieved for your DV.

Hi Rick:

Wings look good.  I don't think the shading is overdone either.  I think with the tapes applied, some further weathering and some dull coat it will look great.  The decals arrived yesterday. Thanks a lot Rick, I will be putting them to good use shortly.

Best

As for my method of shading on this one I will say that I love to use Artists oils. The ribs are WELL defined so I use a mixture of burnt sienna and black. I just carfully brush it along the sides of the rib, spread out and blend with a Q Tip, and all is ready. On this one I did overspray the shading with some Tamiya Gloss White to tone it down a little. The NORMAL Method for pre shading the ribs would be as you described, Tape them off then spray Tamiya Smoke or a black mixture, or something similar. Pre shading on Aviattic decals works out well as they are transparent and anything you lay down prior to application shows through. IHTH,
RAGIII
PS: You can also Post shade if you have the nerve to tape over the Lozenge decals like Coyote Magic/Bud.

Looking good! I think a little tweakage to your camera white balance setting would help show off your hard work even better.

Ernie,Patrick, Bud, Des Vincentm,Dave,Mark, and Bo,
Thanks for the kind comments! I have now put the Lozenge on the uppers. There are a few glitches on the edges but fortunately the tapes will cover any sins. I do have one difficulty which I am sure is self created. When trying to trim off the overlap the elasticity of the film doesn't allow a clean cut. The film seems to stretch instead of slicing off. I know of no one else having this difficulty so what am I doing wrong?

Rick,
You are not alone on the difficulty trimming this stuff. By coincidence I have spent the better part of the past two days applying Aviattic's Lozenge to the flying surfaces of the Fokker DVII (OAW) I'm working on. I'm amazed at how tough and thick this stuff is, and yet it still snuggles down over detail as well as any Decal I've ever used. I'm using brand new #11 Blades to trim the stuff however, discovering the "elastic" qualities of it with the very first piece, I'm now trimming and cutting to an "anal" degree before applying it to avoid the challenges. I've tried files and sand paper, no go!
I'd say work ahead on the trimming in the dry fit stage to reduce the trimming requirement post application. This product is definitely new to me, and I'm surprised there haven't been previous remarks on this topic.
Your wings look great; I wasn't confident enough to try pre-shading on my very first attempt at Aviattic lozenge so Il be post shading this one.
Cheers,
Lance

Rick, the wings look fantastic!  To keep the decal from pulling, replace the blade the very instant it begins to pull, Amigo.
Cheers,
Bud

The wings are looking fantastic Rick. Have you tried trimming the decals with a brand new No.11 scalpel blade, these are a lot sharper than the No11 exacto blades, just a thought.

Hello Rick,

Your lozenge looks fantastic my friend. I even had this problem with the rudder decals of the Nieuport who were overlapping. Even with a new blade it was very difficult to have a clean cut. Anyway you made a very good progress. Keep on the fine job!

Kind regards
Patrick

Well done on the lozenge, despite the problems with the elasticity.  I appreciate you
letting us know of the troubles...something to watch for.  I'm enjoying your build and
look forward to the next installments.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Thanks for the input and comments Lance! I think you have hit on the solution. Measure TWICE and Trim NOT  8) As long as the bird you are doing has tape on the trailing edge it wouldn't matter if you left a thin uncovered line at the rear of the wing or the very thin edge uncovered!
