Just sorting the lower wing position out took me a day...
Yes Marc, that careful fitting takes its time, but it pays back at the end with a great model!
I needed also a lot of time to adjust the length of the struts ...

Cheers,
Frank

Thank You Terri, Lance, Frank and Rick for checking in! Yes, an AM cowling is not an option in darkest Africa, so we battle on! Next we add some surface primer round the edge of the plasticard strip, I use this as it has a finer grain than normal putty, and it gives a smoother surface when sanded, and also is about the same hardness as plastic, useful when attacking with sandpaper! Two photos to show this close up: Comments welcome!

Difficult to show these details in the poor light this evening, but hope it's understandable....

Regards,

Marc.

Nice work, Marc.  Don't think I've ever seen the Roden cowling fixed before.

Thank you, Rick, Terri and Ken for checking in... Still going bravely where no-one has trod before...!

After lots of sanding and feathering the edges, 1000 grit wet-and-dry sandpaper... The feline quality control inspector got a paw in...

The edge has to be really thin, looks a bit messy, may have to prime and sand too...

Regards, Marc.

You are doing an Amazing job on the cowling. When you are done No One will know it isn't an aftermarket item or a repurposed Meng cowling!

Thank you all for checking in on this kind of slow build! Here is the cowling undercoated - in Tamiya acrylic titanium silver - just to see how it looks! Not sure if it's perfect, but shows some of the subtle curves... Many period photographs of the early Dr.1's show a row of rivets where the sheet metal join occurs, but this is not visible on many machines, especially if they had an overpainted cowling, and in the case of 425, the one photo that shows a Little bit of cowling there are no rivets.. so here we go...

Magnified a few times...

Regards,

Marc

Great work, Marc. You're really going the extra mile here :) I have this kit at home as well so I will surely have a close eye on your build.

Best,
Tim
