I'd be more than happy with streaking like that! I know Mr paint is easy to work with, but you're obviously very skilled with the airbrush!

Thank you again,

That streaking with the oil paint looks brilliant, Guy. Are you making Rudolf Stark's mount 146/17, or perhaps Von Tutscheks 404/17?
Cheers,
Gary

Hi Gary, it’s going to be Fokker Dr.I (No. 426/17, Wk Nr 2010) belonged to Vzfw Otto Esswein while serving with Jasta 26 at Halluin-Ost in May 1918...

Guy,
Very impressive results on the streaking! Are you using a "guide" of some sort? I couldn't come close to these results with an airbrush, I'd be all over the map!
Cheers,
Lance

That was my plan, and worked well on a practice piece of card. I angled the wing across my cutting mat, fixed into place with Blu-Tack then used a steel rule an inch above as a guide for the airbrush - using the parallel lines on the mat as a guide. But, I found this didn’t work so well on the wings due to them being 3D! Because of the airfoil shape it didn’t produce dead straight lines, so I ended up doing them freehand but still with the wing fixed and using the lines as a guide again - starting well off the wing and finishing well over the other side. It looks like different colours, but it’s in fact the same MRP RAF Dark Green but just varying the intensity of the lines.

Hope that helps...

Superb results, Guy.
Get me some MRP paints and, get me whatever airbrush you're using and, get me your angled mat and,.......
Aw heck, I'll just watch you make it!

Trying to keep up with you is very difficult....

That streaking is something to die for! By far the best I have seen for a long time - and free-hand too. That is the mark of a master painter. This is going to be a terrific model.

Stephen.

Can I put ‘Master Painter’ in my signature block Stephen?  ;D Honestly, it really wasn’t hard...

On to more mundane items, just masking up the fuselage for painting.

Ps

I’d like to say this is her finished, but just a CGI image of the aircraft in question. I’m basing it on this finish as best I can...

Very nice job all round, the streaking however is top notch.

The least you could do is provide us with a video how to 😁

That streaking pattern is remarkably good. Note that the axle wing was not painted with camouflage streaking. It was painted in a single colour (dark earth grey or field grey or whatever you want to call it). The only streaking on the axle wing was from castor oil exhaust staining.

Ah thanks Rsanz,

I’ll re spray that... Additionally, the two profiles I’ve got show different main wing strut colours too - one blue, one green, I’ve opted for green..

Guy

Wing struts would have been light blue as delivered from the factory and it's highly unlikely they would be overpainted in camouflage green at the unit.

Guy, in the time I need to think if I should build a Dr.I and if yes, in which marking .... you build a complete aircraft :o
Impressive results, your streaking is great (only the angle is not that big on the picture in the latest posting?) and the kit seems to be also nice!

Cheers,
Frank

Thanks guys  ;)

Rsanz... thanks again.. I’ve repainted the struts blue.

Frank, you’re probably right re the angle. I was approximately copying an Aviattic sheet. Although as they were done by hand with a big fat brush there must be some variations!

The fuselage largely painted now...
