Thanks Bob, Albert, Andrew, Terri, Steve, Paul Sandy Rick & Early Bird! :)

Guy, your finishes look amazingly real.  What paints are you using and how are they applied?  Beautiful work thus far.

Best,

Bob

Thanks Bob,

I’m a total convert to MRP - spray like silk and never fail through the airbrush. No thinning required, just a smooth, consistent finish. Highly recommended.

I’m having a couple of issues. The join along the base of the fuselage isn’t even. Which isn’t letting me use the insert seam (with the stitching) it should be easy to fix, but for some reason I struggled - and ended up using a strip of plastic card. Don’t know if others have found this? Or is it just me...

Is this assembly like the Fokker DVII in that you do not glue the bottom seam until after inserting the strip with the stitching? Thanks for the heads up on the potential issue!

Thanks Rick,

It didn’t mention that, but the real issue was that the join line inside the trench was totally uneven- don’t know how that could happen, probably me. I’d be interested to see if anyone else has that issue...

Here she is with a light coat of primer on. I’m going to have to paint it all separately which I hate doing, but think that will be the only way due the masking required on the fuselage.

Your build is progressing well, Guy. Excellent work on the interior. How did you end up bending your wings to make them straight?
Cheers,
Gary

Very sweet indeed , excellent progress Guy  :) Eduard did the same on their 48 scale kite with the lacing and that needed some trimming and sanding as well .

Thanks guys,

Gary - they were more warped than I at first thought, so they definitely did need bending. I dunked them in hot (not boiling) water for a few minutes, then bent them to shape with my hands - I then put them on a flat surface - board on top - then weighted them down for a bit. They now look straight to my eye. Hopefully any minor corrections will be ironed out with fixing in situ with the struts.

I thought I’d have a bash at the streaking next. I painted the base linen, then used the airbrush to build up the streaking effect. I limited the needle’s movement rearwards so I didn’t get a ‘splurge’ of paint and used a low pressure (not an issue with the MRP paints). Obviously it won’t be as neat as the Aviattic decal option, but I thought I’d at least try before going down that route.

I’m quite happy with the results, they look better in the flesh than the photos. I think I’ll stick with what I’ve got.

That streaking with the oil paint looks brilliant, Guy. Are you making Rudolf Stark's mount 146/17, or perhaps Von Tutscheks 404/17?
Cheers,
Gary

Guy,
Very impressive results on the streaking! Are you using a "guide" of some sort? I couldn't come close to these results with an airbrush, I'd be all over the map!
Cheers,
Lance
