Sanding and blending the panels went ok, but as feared the rivets went bye bye.

Especially challenging was to hold the body lines, not sure if I was successful.

To replace the rivets I got to use a tool I picked up at the US Nationals...the UMM Beading and Riveting punch. The punch produces round head rivets pressed out of thin metal. The goal was to replace the look of the SH kit rivets. I tested the sub miniature rivets on a section of sprue.

A dot of Testors liquid glue was placed where I wanted the tiny fastener to be located. The rivet was then punched and stuck on.
Did I mention they were small?

In spite of losing the rivets your panel blending looks like it went well. I can't see any major loss of shape. Glad to see you back on this one!

Yes it went ok, I was a bit ham fisted about it though!

Setting the rivets wasn't too bad, but I did have to redo a couple of them. The glue doesn't bond them to the surface, just holds them in place till I can get some primer on them. I brushed some extra thin over them the rows to further melt them into the panel.

After primer I shot some linen color as I needed to blend the top of the roll over area above the headrest.

Whew...

IMO the primer is a tick too heavy, these macro shots are brutality honest! I plan to lightly buff with some 2000 grit to soften but in a normal viewing distance its not so bad. I really like the definition of the panel this technique yields. Also they do match the soft kit rivets which is what I was after. :)

That is one slick trick with the rivets, It opens up possibilities, like who cares about a few rivets, let me sand this smooth and then replace the rivets. Magic.  Thanks for sharing that one.

Thanks sir, I think next time I'll use white glue to secure till primer. The Testors stuff is a bit to hot. The punch does work as advertised though, I highly recommend it.

The rivets look outstanding to me. If you don't mind what punch are you referring to? Sorry if I missed the info.

The hardest part is getting the punched disk to sit with the rounded side up after punching. The rounded ones seem to glimmer more than ones that are upside down!
