Well, call me the messy one...I tend to clean the bench completely when I finish a project, and minor space clearing during a build.  I've really never been able to avoid a mess whatever I work on!  At any rate, here's my shop:

Of course, these aren't exactly real current.  The bench right now is a complete disaster, and the stash corner is considerably messier...well in fact, EVERYTHING is messier!

It's the only place for cop kibble. Of course you paid. We're a notoriously cheap bunch.  ;D

It must be tough to concentrate on a build Mike, when you have the stash staring you in the face.

Yeah.  But then there is this cartoon:

Make it a hobby shop, and this one is as applicable to me as it is to her...and yes, she's a quilter, and probably has more yards of fabric than I have models, decals, resin and books in my stash.

Mike,
We have a lot in common, mine's a Quilter too. She has more in her stash then I do for sure. It's all in my Model Room.................let me explain!
A few years back I finished our downstairs reno with a beautiful purpose designed Model "Cave" just for me. Lots of natural light, off to the side in a quiet spot, beautiful. The day I finished it some quilt supplies got moved in "temporarily". Here is a photo of it 3 years later. The iron and board come in handy for tightening rigging and you should see the tiny little seat cushions I do in 1;32  for my builds on that nifty sewing machine.

I should have posted this on Von Buckles "The things we do for love" thread but I wanted to share it with you to let you know how fortunate I am to have such a great dedicated Model Room like yours. Why, just recently, I got to stand in the doorway with a request for a sewing needle to make a CA applicator. I got the needle but was told not to enter as I might disrupt the pattern layed out on the very nice laminate floor. :o :(
On the good side, there's never any bad comments on my "junk"!!
Cheers,
Lance

Lance, that is far to similar to the story of my man cave.  Mine's in the attic, with very poor natural light.  I worked on my models up there in a completely unfinished, un-insulated, un-acclimated space for about 4 years (and I live in Chattanooga TN.  Temperatures varied between 30 degrees in winter and 120 in the summer, with about 3 weeks each in spring and fall that were comfortable).

I finally decided enough was enough, and finished out a 15' x 15' portion of the attic for my man cave.  After I had the space framed, rocked and taped, THEN she tells me she'd like a corner to store some fabric.  Had she told me that from the start, the framing stage, or even as I was rocking, I could have bumped out a few more feet into the attic and easily accommodated her fabric without chewing into my space.

Oh well, at least I don't have to dodge the ironing board!  She just turned our dining room into her quilt studio.  Good thing we were never big on dinner parties!

I love this sort of thread. Here's my (still not finished yet), hobby room in my dungeon. I'm fortunate enough to live in a house that affords enough space for a dedicated hobby room, and I love that. (My space).

Immediately to my left was more space for an additional bench, built for a visitor/hobby pal, that joins me regularly for modeling sessions, (usually on Saturday nights). I took the liberty of editing out a couple of "the girls".

The space seems to evolve constantly, with file cabinets, book shelves, phone, and computer/monitor all having been added over the last couple of years. (There's an additional five feet or so of space behind my bench.) If I ever get it finished, it'll be warm in winter, cool in summer (via flexible ducting I've added from furnace plenum), and bright, with a white ceiling to reflect light. My paint booth and model storage is in another portion of the dungeon (as is my sound isolated, de-coupled drum room), some of which is being reworked at this time.

To the extent that my stash is shut away in a small basement storeroom. It's odd that I can look at shelves upon shelves of kits and not find anything of interest to build, but as soon as start surfing my regular internet shopping sites, I always find another kit I just need to have.

Cheers,

Nice set up Fokker boy. Mine is similar in that its in the basement and actually quite secluded. (I considered  the Les Nessman masking tape walls defining my office space but then thought better of it) organization is my failing. Various flat surfaces always seem to fill up with heaps of stuff.

Isn't that the truth. Ironically, the majority of kits presently residing in my pack rat area of the dungeon were all kits I assumed I'd build immediately, and some are now approaching twenty years old, yet I continued to buy more "stuff"! I’ve pretty much resolved lately though, to only seek out bargains, as well as limited run stuff that I know I’ll want to work on eventually. Something like a Tamiya 1:32 Mustang will simply have to wait until I’m in a much better financial condition, as grabbing one now (at full retail prices no less), borders on insanity.

Same here; anything horizontal (other than the ceiling), draws "stuff", like horse poo draws flies.
