Fantastic. Just beautiful.
Maybe I'll see you down in Edmonton. A few of us will be going down for the day.

No progress made as hoped, this is a very slow Build even for me! I'm feeling a little intimidated by the mounting of the upper wing. Any comments/hints out there regarding the foremost of the cabanes that goes through the "Cheek" panel to the engine support frame?? Does it need to be attached/glued "blind' or am I missing something?!? ??? If the two members of the assembly behind it are attached/glued it would appear that it will fall into place however is that good enough? :-\

James,
I'll be there Friday PM til returning here Sunday morning. (Visiting my Son as well) I look forward to seeing you there. Any entries?
Cheers,
Lance

No entries for me, not good enough to enter. Anything that I've ever entered in a contest has garnered nothing even as I've been buiilt up enought to get the confidence to enter. I'm going to look at all the work and hit the vendors table. I'll be the guy who looks like Santa Clause minus the red suit.

Hi Lance:

It has now been awhile since my last DVII, but; If I recall I placed it in there, set the top wing on and dribbled a little cement at the assembly point.  Don't sweat the top wing Lance, it is an easy assembly.  I was wondering about that same cabane strut, but it all fits quite well.  Don't let it slow you down.  I also left off the outer interplane "N" struts and just sort of popped them in place once the top wing was on.  Good luck.
Best

Just catching up after a week away and I must say Lance, your work is amazing. I love the lozenge decals you used and your weathering techniques are superb. This is shaping up to be an excellent model.

James - I look forward to seeing you there; just look for an old fellow who looks lost, or at least confused! ::)
Mark - I'll just go for it once I get a moment on the Bench. Failed again today, mower Maintenance and 7+acres of grass to cut. :(
Terri - It has been a while; Thanks for the wonderful compliment. ;D

and Des, Thank you. Coming from an artist such as yourself that means a lot!
Cheers,
Lance

About the strut like Mark said just glue the two positive locations and use some superglue or liquid cement on the third point. I do not think it is actually integral to the strength of the construction. If I am correct when a modeler chooses to leave the panels removable that strut is left UNGLUED and the panel slips off over the "Movable" strut location.

Thanks Rick!  I figured when I dry fitted the Cabane "triple" assembly that once the two externally mounted struts were glued in their respective locations the third would fall into place and probably was not critical to the strength of the assembly. Never hurts to check and there's certainly a lot of experience, help, and talent on this Site that only a fool would ignore.
Now, if I could just get a little bench time................ :(
Cheers,
Lance

Lozenge work is Tip Top Lance. I havent bitten the bullet yet, but when
I do, I can make as good a job as you have. Excellent stuff.

Finally have found a little time here and there to get this project moving again. There's been a few steps taken backwards since the last update however the "retro" work is now complete and were stepping along according to plan.
The first area requiring re-working was the Darker Rib Tapes I'd used on the stabilator. I couldn't live with the stark contrast they provided to the pre-taped wing Lozenge so cut a bunch from some Wind and Wire white base stock, a much better match and something I could have done in the first place and saved myself a lot of angst!
Here's a shot of the Stab with the new tapes on the left side, the right tapes being the darker ones originally from some A/M WNW Lozenge Sets.

.......and here's the upper portion with tapes re-done and post shading redone as well ready to go on the fuselage.

I also replaced the outline tapes on the elevator, a nasty job to remove some of the old which resulted in one repair exercise. I used scrap white decal as a new base for the Lozenge and then replaced the outline or edge tapes.

 ....and the final result.

The second area requiring re-work was the radiator filler pipe; I noticed on the photo of the original aircraft that it had the off center one vs. centered version. The pipe was carefully cut from the thicker Radiator Kit Part #34 and installed on the radiator already on the aircraft after the original centre mounted pipe was removed. The brass radiator was touched up and I was now back where I was several weeks ago!
Here's the initial installation of the off set filler pipe...................

.............some touching up in progress.................

and the completed modification..........

Since then the Guns and Flash Guards have been mounted, some more detailing/weathering of the axel wing completed, and the struts prepared for installation and assembly of the upper wing.

the right Spandau sustained a little "squeeze " damage during installation but should be more or les invisible with the upper wing in place....

and last the axel wing with Gas Patch Turn Buckles installed.

This will be followed by installation of the tail components and rigging which should have her pretty well done. The landing gear will be added last.
Now it's off to the great outdoors for the bulk of the day; more fence panels to stain and about 3 more hours of lawn cutting to complete! :(
Cheers,
Lance

I definitely like the 'new' rib tapes Lance. That re-working was worth the time and effort. Your repaired elevator looks every bit as good as the kit supplied part too. This is well on the way to yet another superb piece of craftsmanship to emerge from your hangar.

Cheers,

Chris

Very interesting build log Lance. I thank you for sharing the issues and your methods to resolve them which is both enlightening and helpful. The pictures so far look great and it will no doubt be a great looking model when completed. It is also interesting to learn of the Canadian connection.

I've some how missed this one so far as I've been swanning around the forum Lance.

Really nice work. I tend to agree on the stark contrast and how you resolved it though I'd have ended up gouging the lozenge to shreds I think. Brilliant recovery and mods to the rad.

As for the cooling jacket, those clumsy mechanics, how stupid to kneel ontop of the guns to try to tighten that slack cabane bolt!!!

All the best. Keith

Lance,

Clever fix on the radiator filler pipe.  Also, unless you had said, I would not even have noticed the dent in the MG cooling jacket.

Coming along lovely!
