Thank you for the generous comments, everyone.  I do appreciate them and hope my work inspires others to try new things.
I have received the PART PE a week earlier than expected.  Great service from Jadar Hobbies in Poland.  I have found it has a few things I can use in the cockpit.
In the meantime, I worked a few other areas.

I have drilled some holes for engine panel cover fasteners.  These are 1/4 turn fasteners to be represented by wire, flattened on one end (not pictured).

I also had this crazy idea that I could improve the engine cooling slats.  I'll see how it turns out before deciding to use it or not.  I turned a round jig on the lathe to make the back ring into a circular shape.  Kit part on left.

Here, I've done the base painting on the fuse innards. The base CDL is Tamiya racing white, the wood grain is oil paints.  I have added the bracing with phosphor bronze wire and brass tubes for turnbuckles.  The turnbuckles are not fixed in place yet because I am working on some PE brackets from the PARTs kit, which will affect where the turnbuckles are located.  The wood panels are decals included in the FFSMC decal sheet.  They react well with setting solution and soften very quickly with Microsol, so I will have to be very careful with that with the other decal markings.  The stringer detail on the bottom of the fuse behind the cockpit area is just scratches through the paint.

Now that I have the PE, there are a number of details to work on - safety harness, compass, throttle quadrant, etc.

Thanks for following along.

Great work on details!

I also had this crazy idea that I could improve the engine cooling slats.
Are there no slats in the parts set?
I just checked my 1/48 set, and the slats are thin plate with a axle in the middle, which just have to rotated.

Cheers,
Frank

Beautiful detailing Ken!

I think the PARTs set are great, and service and delivery time are very good.

I very much like your colour scheme. And I love chicken!  :P

Thanks for checking in, guys and gal.  I've been working with the PE parts and painting is next.  Another update shouldn't be long in coming.

Frank, no, the PART PE did not have the cooling slats, though I expected it would.

I was just looking again at your post Ken. What size drill bit are you using on those fasteners? It must be smaller than My usual #80  8)

Rick, no, I used a #80 bit.  I did indent the positions with a sharp pick to get the drill bit to stay on target.  The wire fasteners are just 0.008", so they fit somewhat loosely.  I'll put them on after painting, so they will be silver colored.  Speaking of the #80 bit, I broke my HSS bit, so I need a replacement.

I'm still working on the interior details, for the most part.  I've added the compass and throttle quadrant and fixed the turnbuckles.

Made a seat cushion from Milliput and detailed the seat.  Belts are next.

The cooling slats I made look good, so I'll go with them.

Won't be too long before the fuse gets closed up.  I've mixed up some paint for the exterior, but still not sure about the color.  Pictures of Guynemer's SPAD VII indicate it's a very yellow color.  I think a biege looks better.  The color I have mixed doesn't look like either one.

Your details are awesome Ken! You are inspiring Me to do another one of these and take a bit more care on the build. By then I am hopeful Part or Eduard will have a set for the XIII. ;D As for the color I don't remember the exact quote from the Data File but it could vary from aircraft to aircraft. Beige, yellowish egg yolk, biscuit brown etc. I always try to just be in the "Ball Park".

Rick - I just don't want the color to induce vomiting.  :-\

Thanks, Alexis.  I like to do the upgrades.  Gives it a personal touch.
