Eduard 1/48 Sopwith Triplane *Flamer
« on: March 03, 2021, 11:40:36 PM »
Hi all,

While I wait on some stencil decals for my Tamiya Spitfire I thought I’d delve into this old kit. Although I may say it’s rather impressed me with it’s level of detail - lot’s of PE & resin to play with! Let’s hope I can get it over there the finish line without it having to go in the bin!

I have seen Frank & Bud’s builds - don’t expect the same level of detail!

Hmm, you mentioned my build - this was great fun last year!
So I will watch of course to what you are doing with this kit.

Cheers,

Ooooo , following along on this one Guy !

I built this kit 10 years ago , their first boxing with didn't have the resin items . This is their second boxing with up-date tooling , more PE and resin items ( I have this one too ) . It is a really nice actually and if I remember no fit issues with it .

Nice to know it’s a popular build! Thanks for following along.

Don’t get your hopes up though, I don’t think I’ll be adding anything that isn’t in the kit. Just a nice simple, clean build hopefully.

Good to know Alexis! I don’t know the history, but maybe one of the first ‘Profipack’ boxings?

Yours is a beauty Frank, but reading the thread made me feel dizzy...

One thing I do have up my sleeve is a set of paint masks  ;) I’ll do my best Fredrik.

I have made a start on the cockpit...

To read this thread would avoid mistakes like this (this hint is from WNW web site):

It is often very useful, to check the WNW page and manual, if the type was available by them.
That's why I made a new seat from alu and wood.

Hope it is not to late ...

Cheers,
Frank

Looking good. I remember a discussion from somewhere, perhaps here, about the Brits being able to "Purchase" wicker seats even if the Aircraft had another type  ::)

Thanks Frank,

I did however point out it won’t be to your standards! I have read your thread through and the detail is insane. The model itself is really quite small and I can’t even see that the seat has a wicker effect unless I get a magnifying glass out.

I hate to sound so slapdash, but my new mantra is to only detail bits I can see with the naked eye. That doesn’t mean I don’t care, I really will make a great effort to finish it cleanly.

I’m going for this option:

Ps Thanks Rick, I don’t feel so bad now!   ;D

So did I!  But a lot longer then 10 years ago.  Built up very nicely for its age.  I too have the newer boxing stored away somewhere...  But the WNW version is also calling me.

Hugh

Thanks Hugh and Fredrik,

Tiny update - instrument panel. You can see the flaws in macro mode, but it does look quite nice at a distance! Tbf it’s teeny tiny!  ???

I’ve been playing with the cockpit fitting into the fuselage and it seems very vague here. The instructions show it fixed to the floor - but this leaves it way too low, so I can’t really see what it actually attaches to - just sandwiched between the two halves I guess?

I seem to have pushed on this morning and she’s closed up!  ;D

Cockpit complete, Frank - look away now  :o

I need a trip to Alexis’ nail salon... ::)

Closed...

I just squashed the cockpit tub in when I closed up, and it seems to have worked...

Really nice out come with the pit Guy  :)

Detail what you feel is right for you . I don't detail ever build I do and there is nothing wrong with that  :)

The first boxing is light grey plastic , very hard , doesn't sand easily . Limited run style , lot's of clean up ! Much smaller box !
It comes with a small PE set , nothing like what is in the second boxing which is 3 times more ! Can't recall how many decal options there was but something tells me 2 .

If you would like different markings for this . I have Pheon's 1/48 set  ;)
