WOW, Carl! I’ve just seen your thread. Great topic: I love those well known airplanes with a „twist“! Will follow your build eagerly.

Indeed a great topic. I like the floats as they are but I can understand why you want to spray some weathered black.

I redid the floats. I lightly sanded the oil paints and put on some Proper Plane light wood decals. Then I sprayed some Tamiya clear yellow and sealed with an Alclad gloss coat. I like it better than the original.

I think you have done an outstanding job on all, including the roundels! The floats look fine to Me but it is your build  8)

Finally had an opportunity to work on the engine. This is the 185hp Benz Bz.IIIa from the Roland D.VIb. The later W.29's were upgraded from the 150hp Benz Bz.III. I added .3mm plastic rod for the lifters, twisted copper wire for the sparkplug wires, and pieces from HGW's Bz.III engine set. Still much more work to do; but, it was nice to finally get started again.

I had not seen this before - some remarkable detailing on that engine. The floats look really good too - worn but not overdone. I will keep a closer eye in future.

I've been missing this build, very fine wood parts and painting of fabric covered parts. Well done with the new engine.

Great work so far - I'm extremely impressed with your painted-on wing roundels.
Cheers,
