It's great to see an update on this build. The engine is looking good.

I agree with Kevin. Your added details are excellent!

I've been missing this build, very fine wood parts and painting of fabric covered parts. Well done with the new engine.

Great work so far - I'm extremely impressed with your painted-on wing roundels.
Cheers,
Gary

Thank you. The whole painted markings thing has really gotten me started. My wife gave me a Silouhette Portrait cutter for Christmas so I can make stencils more accurately. I'm thinking tracing is easier and cutting by hand...

I got side-tracked form the engine to work on the front radiator since it is different from the Bz.III. I have started scratch-building the radiator to hopefully use to make some 3D printed parts.

The Benz Bz.IIIa radiator:

The Bz.III radiator

My start on the radiator:

I just need to cut the existing radiator off the front cowling part and attach the new one. Unfortunately, I may need to drink copious amounts of bourbon to get the nerve to cut it...

Yes cutting up a good kit is not always easy, but grit your teeth and just cut - it will be better than you think!

Well...I did it!! Looks better than I thought. Thanks Rick and Stephen for the vote of confidence.

I taped the two together and I think this will work. Now, I just need to find a radiator mesh and cut the hole for the coolant hose. May be this whole scratch-building thing isn't so bad...

While I was pondering my next step with the new radiator I decided to assemble the cockpit. Its amazing that I started this in late 2020 and I noticed I apparently, I lost two parts so far... the rear bulkhead, A26, and the late production elevator, B5,... I hate it when I mess it myself... I fashioned a new bulkhead with some spare sheet plastic and I'll figure out the elevator later. Anyway, the cockpit framing is assembled and the fuselage together!! It is starting to look like an airplane!!!

Your cockpit looks Awesome! I also lose parts. The condition of MY desk makes it inevitable  :-[ You made a nice recovery with the scratch built version of the bulkhead! The Model is really taking shape now!

Thank you. The bad thing is I put pieces in various containers so I don't lose them... I am always surprised how fast everything moves when the woodwork is done.

Another update. I placed the Bz.IIIa engine in the engine compartment and the locating pins on the bottom of the engine line up perfectly with the notches in the support. I temporarily attached the front cowling and everything fit pretty well. I do need to notch a bit off the cowling lip some for a closer fit.
