Adding my Albie to the collection.

1/32 Roden Albatros D.III.  This is a factory fresh bird, so minimal weathering and bright colors.

Ken,
As I have said elsewhere your DIII is superbly detailed. The wood Grain Decal experiment worked Beautifully!

I figured it was time to add My build of the Roden 1/32nd scale Albatros DIII OAW, Jasta 4: Kurt Wusthoff . I did some minor corrections as follows:
1. I changed the interior slightly to represent a DIII vs A DI or DII as supplied in the kit
2. The   Oversized Radiator in the upper wing was sanded off and replaced with a WNW Teeves and Braun from the Albatros DV.
3. The Rudder was also oversized. I used Drawings of the OAW DIII and the WNW rudder to resize/ reshape the rudder
4. Details were added to the engine, valve springs from wire, and plug wires from stretched sprue.

Hello Everyone,

Here are some images of a double build I did last year.  These are not nearly as good as the models others have been posting here, but hey, I’m still learning (even in my 50s).

One kit is an old Eduard 1/48 D.III and the other is a “new” Revell re-boxing of the Eduard kit.  In predictable fashion, I did the noob thing and chose two famous mounts used by two chaps everyone hear has heard of…MvR and his pal Werner Voß.   These are of course, “Le Petit Rouge” and whatever WV called his heart adorned machine.  I picked the MvR plane and my wife actually picked the WV livery out of reference book.

These are pretty much straightforward builds.  As neither kit came with photo which parts I ended up buying one Eduard PE set and one Quinta Studios 3D set.   I might’ve mixed and matched some of the pieces among the two planes (I don’t remember.).   The only ”scratchbuilding” was a vain attempt at putting in rocker springs on the red plane (didn’t go well) and of course the radiator pipes for both craft (which turned out okayish).  I used some online painting instructions and aftermarket decals (can’t recall which, but the WV decals were very nice and had white matte decals).

Above/Below- Le Petit Rouge

Ah heck, here’s one more:

Paint was a combination of Tamiya and Mr Colour (sprayed individually using Mr Levelling Thinner).  The ”Little Red” fuselage was initially painted in several tones of wood tan and light green, and then covered up with thin layers of red after decals were applied.  I’m honestly not very happy with how it came out, but such is life.   As for the “Heart” machine, I did the same thing, except I used oil paints to create a woodgrain effect, and instead of painting it red I obviously gave it some light coats of clear, yellow, and orange.  I’m not too happy with how the upper surfaces of the wings came out (bleed through and raised lines), but I kind of like the bottoms.  It’s the first time I tried doing the wing tapes like that… I know it could be more accurate, but I think it’s OK for a first attempt.

Above/below: Here are a few Voß pics…

I’m not sure I’m gonna do any more D.IIIs, but there might be a D.Va in the future.  So, any suggestions on how I can improve my Albatros abilities would be greatly appreciated!
