That's no doubt a fine representation for wood. You used a sponge instead of a brush? I also have a small set of Abteilung Oil paints and I am not too convinced of their quality, but that shade obviously does what it should do.

I find the quality to be very good.

This was used to make the grain, I notched it to fit the size I needed.

I applied pretty wet to get this effect and of course trial and error.

Looks like a great tool, thanks for showing.
i have those, mainly for creating chipping effects, but they are a little bit on the soft side

Those sponge brushes are quite stiff and really inexpensive.

Ordered. Great stuff.
I am keen on seeing your Albatros coming together.

I was drawn to them because of the chisel edge, I'll take some pics of the ones I modified to fit the Albatros.

When I tried to use a sponge clamped in tweezers I kept chipping my paint job with the tweezers.

Thanks for your comments Borsos.

Borsos,

Here are the other participants in the wood technique.

The regular brushes are used to spread the oil and the sponge is used to clean up and refine the grain effect.

You can see the notch I cut into the sponge to allow it to custom fit the area I needed. (I imagine also could have cut it to a radius edge to work a little better)

Great progress so far!
In regards to the sponge brushes...well I just cut a piece of sponge to the required size, stick it to my lockable pliers and use it absolutely the same way.... it costs me generally nothing as tehre are some sponges coming with aftermarket for example :)

Absolutely, the problem I was having is I was nicking the paint off of corners with my locking tweezers, there is no chance of this wit the brush pictured.

Thanks for your comments.

Thanks Ryan!
I too worked with sponges in pliers (for chipping effects, not for woidgrain) and I always found the Sponge being too soft for the things I wanted to do with it.

You will like these I hope, there is a hidden plastic support inside the foam to keep it stiff.

I have a question for the Albatros experts (or in general German AC production) regarding the finish of aluminum interior parts.
Are these dressed like the Fokker Eindecker cowling?

Thanks for any help, some grainy pics suggests that these parts were simply not an even finish.

Ryan
No the aluminium sheet wasnt machined like Fokker not from what I've seen anyway. Just plain unpolished metal
Never too old to learn sumfink noo

Thanks, I noticed the reproduction pics at the Vintage Aviator did not show the turning...should have looked there first!
