You could use a piece of clear decal material painted black or very dark gray and then cut to the desired shape of the slot. Advantage here is you can cut as many as you need until you get one just right. Can't do that with a knife, drill or paint brush.

Listen to me advising someone who can work such magic in 144 th scale.

Should anyone have an idea how to cut out the slots without the danger of ruining the part, all advices are warmly welcome.

Could you remake the part in (2) pieces, front and back and then add small plastic strip in locations between to locate the slots? The front and back would be too short if glued together, the space between is where you would space the slots.

I marked the areas to be removed on the fuselage and will start working on the adjustment next weekend.




While masking the wings for the wingribs I experienced one of the hardest struggles in my modelling history, the tailplane took me over 20 trials to get it about right. Corrections will still be needed, but this will be a minor issue.

While I was out of home during this week, I was thinking about possible solutions for the opening in the engine cowling.

In the first step I will test out how the decal solution will look, but plan B never goes amiss, right?

So the plan B will be a cylinder made of brass I will insert the cowling into. The bottom side of the cylinder will have openings identical with the ones I want on the cowling and thus serve as a guide while drilling out the holes.

Will see, how it will work.

This project is making a damn good progress! A Camel is not a big aircraft in 1:1, but in this small scale this is again unbelievable, how clean and precise your parts are created.
For your cowling it sound like a plan. May be you need only one slot and a 90° mark. So you can rotate the cowling in the cylinder and all 4 cutouts are done my the same template.

Not much progress this weekend, only the wings and tailplanes received several layers of surfacer, now I will leave them to cure until next weekend, will see how it turns out then.



I spent most of the time at the workbench adjusting the cockpit opening. I did not want to damage the interior, therefore I could not use my Proxxon and had to remove all the material using a sharp blade and small files. But the result looks acceptable.

Today I removed the masking tape and unfortunately the wing ribs did not turn out up to the standard I want, so I will have to rework them. Nevermind, back to the drawing board.
