This weekend the sides will get Gloss Cote followed by decals.
It only took three years!

Thanks to some health and work issues - coincidental with but not due to COVID - my modelling mojo took a hit a few months back, but after bingewatching a bunch of WW1 aviation clips on YouTube the Pup found its way back to the bench. Next step is masking and painting the underside PC10 edging, then mounting the top wing. I'm more nervous about doing the paint!

Hope all goes well health wise, what you have done so far is truly noteworthy, the rigging of the tail skid especially.  Quite the project and it was interesting to see all the old familiar names going back to 2017.  Looking forward to a stellar MOJO return and further progress.

Progress is progress and I must say that your Pup is shaping up nicely so far . Really like the wood effect on the struts and the cockpit decking .

Best of health

With my recent SPAD windfall (thank you Roden and the forum!) I've found myself working on my second-ever 1/32 biplane...all while my first languishes in a box!

As I'm feeling a little guilt, but also a lot of motivation, the Pup now joins the SPAD in its rightful place in my work queue. Keep your eyes peeled for Pup progress!

As am I! The cabanes need a little straightening as does the tailskid, but on first impression she looks to have endured storage well. Thank goodness!

Wishing you a quick and effective solution to health issues, is good to see you coming back to this one. I have plenty of old started builds from ages, abandoned in boxes and cabinets, even collecting dust in open air and know too much well the feelings these give. What to say but good luck and have fun?
Ciao

Thank you, Giuseppe. Thanks to my general practioner and a wonderful counsellor - and a CPAP machine - over the past three months I've felt like I'm a new man! Energy and modelling mojo up the wazoo!  ;D

Of my stash I honestly believe maybe 25% are actually unstarted kits!!

Upon reassessment I realised the silly reason the Pup has sat neglected for so long: I'd run out of masking tape at the time and had been unable to do the underside edges of the wings! That's now well underway and I'm happy:

Well, kinda. My poor luck with Tamiya colours has struck again as, even though I'm still using the kit-recommended Tamya XF-62 Olive Drab to represent PC10 early there's a discrepancy between what was applied all those years ago and what went on this week:

And it's not down to the clear coats changing the shade, as this touch-up shows:

So I'll bite the bullet and repaint the wings but leave the empennage and fuselage as they're all decaled and sealed. I plan to do the extra edging today  :)

Progress - the gun is on!

I'm waiting for paint to dry to allow me to touch-up the struts where they were attached to the sprues, and will then tackle attaching them and the top wing.

I'm sure you Pup will shape up Nicely Zac!

It's a bummer though to see that the same paint looks so different after three years. Did you use a new pot, or is it the same one you used three years ago?

A small number of Tamiya green paints seem to change hue as you get closer to the bottom. It's a problem I've only noticed over the last few years (I've never had any problems with the brand until this) and only with certain greens. I was happy to repaint them and, as I said, in the Real World they'd chop and change as needed so I have a legitimate excuse!

Progress, and less painful than I feared!
Wingnut Wings 1/32 Sopwith Pup by Zac Yates, on Flickr

Did I attach the top ailerons first, forgetting that the roundels needed to go onto the wing, and then took them off again? Maybe...
