Hello world,
after showing you my ready done work, I will now start with a build report.
First I have to say, that I do not want to be 100% correct in history regards (hope that are the right words)
I mean it could be, that I show two planes in a single scene, that could never have met in reality, because the first was a British trainer and the other was a German fighter at the Westfront for example (I just look that the timespan is correct, so you don’t need to worry about Dinosaurs in my Dios)
But now, back to topic. I want to do a scene with an Eindecker and a Fe 2b in a dogfight (flying)
The groundwork will be a little bit like a canyon with some wild water, snow and ice knobbed Oaks (the reason why I choose winter is I don’t want to glue any leaves on a tree for the next time) and a tree trunk were some staghounds on the one side and some boars threaten each other. My intension in this is to show an allegory between the animals and the humans because you don’t know how will be the winner.
It will be called “Jäger und Gejagte?” that means “Hunter and Prey?”
It will be in the size of 70 by 110 cm ( 27.5 by 43.3 inch)
The upper 2/3rd will be framed in an old baroqe frame, which will fade into the winter landscape.
The background (sky) will be done in an oil paint-style (maybe dawn).

Now, enough words here is a first Photoshop sketch (without canyon and only one wolf and one boar, so this will be changed)

Here the well known Fokker kit and it's content

My preferred colour scheme

the Pe-fret

First colour (alclad aluminum)

Here an easy method to make Wood:
Take an Artist ink pen (Farber) and paint some Wood grain on the surface.
Wait 2 or 3 minutes to let it dry and then rub with arubber or your finger over it to smear the ink a bit.
After that you kann go on with Tamiya clear yellow/orange.
In this case I didn't do it too accurate, because you won't see it anymore because the Pilot will be covering it.

Here the Pilot from Wingcockpit figures (thanks to David Allan)
with the modified Pe-belt.

See you,
Manni

Good start, Manfred.  That is going to be a big diorama, considering the
size of the Fe2!  Nice start on the Eindecker, and I am pleased to see your choice
of markings. Interesting idea about the woodgrain.  The figure looks great all
painted up.  A big job, but you have shown with your others, that you are up to
the challenge.  I look forward to following this one, my friend.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Neat idea, but...

.... how are you going to show the Umlaufmotor running? The propeller itself is a tough task, but the turning engine? And are you going to put some "glass" into the pilot's glasses/flying goggles?

Lovely start, this promises to be interesting!
You might want to make something up to cover the pilot's face, I can promise you he would not be flying with a bare face in winter!

Interesting topic. Perhaps you should change the title from D.III into E.III  :)

Hello.

Neat idea, but...

Stefan

Hello Stefan,
I will take some cutted parts of a propblur PE part and will glue them on the cylinder and the pusher rods.
The prop will be done with a PE part from Alliance Model Works. I did this before with the Gotha.

Lovely start, this promises to be interesting!
You might want to make something up to cover the pilot's face, I can promise you he would not be flying with a bare face in winter!

Ian

Hi, Ian,
good Point, I will do that. I will also put glasses into the goggles.

Dear gents,
thank you for your warm replies.
This is the reason, why I did not throw the EIII into the bin.
A couple of days ago, I glued a socket into the completed fuselage. And let it cure over night.
Next day the fuselage was bend in a 45° angle.(Yes, Sir! Glue can get hot, Sir! .Very hot,Sir, yes Sir! I'm an idiot, Sir >:() But after several evenings of cutting, sanding, gueing and fillingI am nearly satisfied again.
Only the underside is still not nice, but I will ignore that due to the reason the plane will be fixed in a way that makes it impossible to look under the fuselage.

So here some pics

Next to come up will be the preshading.
Cheers,
Manni

It looks like you've made a much better recovery than I could have!

Well done,

Manni, you did a great job with the recovery of the fuselage. I love your diorama idea as well, mixing up baroque aspects of "telling a story or whisdom by using symbols" and modern diorama building; really a very good idea!
Remember the Fe 2b wasn't just "Fokker fodder" but could actually stand and fight against the German eindecker. The Fe 2b was one of those planes that ended the Fokker scourge. (Just a comment, nor a critique, of course there were enough successful Eindecker pilots over Fe 2bs...)
Best wishes

Thank you guys.

@Borsos: Thank for your reply. But as I wrote in my Project introducion there will be a questionmark behind " Hunter and Prey?" to Show that everything is open, like the fight between the boars and the Dogs.

But now,
I made some Progress.
I tried a new technique to preshade the Linnen covered Areas.

At first, I masked the Frame and strits following some plans I found. On the underside of the wings I used acrylic Artist pens (dark sepia) to preshade the ribs of the wings.

Second step was to overspray everything with a layer of hairspray. After that I sprayed very uneven some highliy dilluted dark Brown over the wings and the fuselage.

Third step was to take a moisted brush to remove the Brown between the ribs.

In the end I sprayed Tamiyas XF60 with 50% Thinner over the whole mess.
...and I am very happy with the result....

Next Phase was to get the Aluminium parts of the cowling done.
So I started with a AlcladII Aluminium base, that I polished with some AK true metal wax (great stuff)

After that I took a 00 brush and Tamiya XF16 to paint the brush-finish of the aluminum parts.

I hope you like it. More will come soon...
Cheers,
Manni
