Extra , extra read all about it ....Modeller finished the decaling !

It  has been a long step getting to this stage from when this project started over a year ago . Feels really damn good to have this stage of the build done . The finish line is getting closer and closer . Still left to do ....

Laminations on the prop

Paint the tires'

Rigging anchoring points ( wire hoops )

Paint fire wall

paint chin pan ( might use bare metal foil for this )

Engine

Weathering

Finally assembly

Touch ups

Rigging

Looking good Terri!
One question....are the upper wing crosses right, with white ends outboard but not inboard? It looks a little odd....

Hey , thanks Ian . I didn't even notice that with the crosses . Guess I was to excited on getting the decaling done that I did notice . Should be a easy fix .

Still eager to see that little bird completed, as I have exactly the same on my "program".
A question: when rib tapes are made from lozenge fabric, was it a rule to use upperwing lozenge for upperwing tapes, and lowerwing ones for lower tapes?

Hi Vincent ,

I'm getting eager as well on getting this one completed . I'm shooting for having this one done by the end of the month . Once the engine is assembled and the guns , rest should go a bit faster with the final assembly .

For your question . As a rule yes but one does need to check the ref's . Upper tapes where sometimes used on the lower surfaces . A lot of this would depend on war time supplies .

OK thanks.
I didn't mention that my own SSW D-III will be far much smaller...in 1/72nd it's really a tiny thing.

I'm wondering what was the type of rib tapes on Böhning's Pfalz. I found a pic that clearly shows various shades on upperside tapes, which should mean they were made from lozenge fabric, but I have no pic showing the underside of wings. Well I guess there are reasonable chances that they were made from lowerside lozenges...

Hi, Terri,

This is looking really super and gives me inspiration to keep going to see my Pup completely buttoned up.

It's been said that the last 10% of any job is the hardest....so true!

Keep at it, the goal is in sight and will be smashing!

Cheers from NYC,
Michael

Hi Vincent , yes on Bohnings Pfalz the upper wing used  5 colour tapes and the under surfaces used 5 colour lower for the tapes

For you SSW in 72 scale is this the Toko kit ?

Hi Martin , I do have a Pfalz D.VII/III in the stash . Tom's Model Works resin kit which is long out of production and very hard to find now . One of these days I will build it but I need to finish the Pfalz Dr.1 first ....

Glad you like the lozenge Martin , will have some pic's of the engine up soon . Still have a bit more thinning on the inside to cowl and lot's of test fitting still to come .

Hey guy's ,

Work on the engine has forced me to think outside the box . With the cowl already fixed in place and mod to fit Eduards . It was a good metal challenge on figuring how Karaya's engine is going to fit without having to cut 2mm off the bottom part of the cylinder or having to sand off that beautiful detail on the rocker arms .

So out comes the dermal and I grinded the inside very carefully working at slow speed . Some areas are almost paper thin . Still need to smooth this out and for this I will use a piece of scotch brite pad . The engine block itself is not exactly round . The back side is what I like to call ...the egging effect .

I cut off the mounting tab and drilled a hole in it's place so the cylinder can slide over a pin in the engine block . The bottom of the cylinder was then sanded as thin as I could go . Almost 1 mm . The mounting location on the block was also sand but this is roughly 1/2 mm ( extra space comes for inside the cowl ) . Only parts that will now need to be trimmed to fit is the induction pipes . Lot's of test fitting is need and the best way was to mount a cylinder on top and bottom of the engine case . She fit's !
Front engine mount fit's and lines up with the mounting hole in the fire wall , making me one happy lady indeed  :)

On a let down is the spark plug leads are moulded running the side of the cylinders , this has to be removed and not easily done with out losing the detail  :(
