Thanks all for your encouraging comments. :)
Mark - You've been there before me, the frame assembly certainly put a new definition on "fat fingers"! (and an even greater appreciation of arthritis, a genetic curse I'm coming to hate!)
Bob - I am now very much a fan of the Aviattic Lozenge. Took a little bit to get used to the new heavier composition of the decal material but, with a little careful prep on the pre-application trimming, it works very well.
James - If a less then factory finish is your preference the chipping adds a lot in my view. The trick for me is to learn when to stop, as it can get away on you real quick! In this case the photos I have of this aircraft show quite a bit of wear and tear, and the "cheek" panels on DVII's are noted for really heavy paint chipping around the circumference on the fasteners from being over tightened. There's some pretty neat versions of the technique in various Builds here from hairspray to even salt and, of all things, Marmite!
Cheers,
Lance

excellent update! Your Lozenge application is outstanding! The Engine detailing is also excellent and I agree that if closed up no more is needed! Sorry Bo  :-X

Amazing work Lance, the lozenge is extremely nice and well done (as usual). Great build my friend.

Kind regards

Lance,

Your work on the cowling is fantastic. The lozenge looks great on the fuselage too, will look even better with that maple leaf on there. I'm looking forward to more updates.

Thank you, Tom!
I'm looking forward to getting the markings on her, and especially that unusual Maple Leaf. Not a real colourful subject however, for obvious reasons, I like the "Canadian Content". Sadly, with the exception of the Knowlton Fokker, this one did not survive the wrecker's axe along with the rest of the two dozen after a very short life here. :'(
Cheers,
Lance

A bit of scrambling going on here yesterday, I got a little sloppy and had some touchy repair work to do! Before applying a coat of Future I thought I'd touch up the aileron hinge hard ware. That went well until I noticed a fairly big blob of grey-green enamel on the lower wing undersurface....... "strike one fat finger complex is alive and well here!
Without much thought I put a dab of enamel thinner on a cloth and wiped it away before it dried, taking most of the lozenge pattern with it! After a session of cursing and trembling I settled into repair mode and carefully replaced the lozenge panel, learning for the second time in a week that these transparent decals don't come off well over top of previous patterns or damage.........."strike two", memory typical of encroaching dementia and must be given careful consideration! Here's the "ugly" result.

Taking an hour to walk away from this disaster I came up with three options: mask and paint the white background base again, use a strip of white decal to get the same results without risking lifting the finish with tape removal, or just tie myself to a tree on my back 40 and let the wolves have their way with me. I chose the decal option..............

After letting it dry a strip of the Aviattic Lozenge went on very nicely and no harm done in the end.

I thought I'd share this should it save someone else a lot of heartache; I know I've cleaned up a similar problem or two over the years and a very light swipe of thinner hasn't damaged the decal; not so in this case. Not a failure of the product for sure, just one I didn't see coming.
The two coats of Future have since been applied and, once dried, it's markings time.
More to follow soon, I'm thinking of changing my moniker to Jackass but wouldn't be able to find my Threads here if I did. :-[ The Golden Years aren't really all that golden for sure! ::)
Cheers, ;)

Hello Lance:

Nice save and thanks for sharing the technique.  I am sure it will save someone some time and headache.  I have done a similar thing on a KC-97.  I apply Future with a Q-Tip, I inadvertantly dipped the Swab in laquer thinner.  To my horror, my nice bare metal finish bubbled off!   You did a great job on the repair.  Looking forward to seeing more progress.

Best

Mark

Many Thanks for your positive comments, Gents. I have the decals on, and several coats of Semi Gloss over top however the weather has turned fair and my other half actually believes that finally getting the home spread post Winter clean up done is more important then this latest Build!?  ???Also have a tradesman in doing some home improvements for the next 4-5 days, so progress is stalled at the moment. I'll try for at least a few photos later today.
Cheers,
Lance
