Super job on the red over lozenge.  I'm taking notes as I work on WNW 1/32 for Jasta 18.  Thanks for providing inspiration and motivation.

I really like the paint on the wing, Bud.  Great choice of red...it looks perfect.
Did you thin it any more than usual to get the translucent effect you were after?
Whatever you did, you certainly got it right on!  I'm enjoying the build and looking
forward to the next update.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

The translucid red over the lozenge it's very nicely done.

Hello Bud

You say that you think the red over the lozenge turned out okay. The consensus here is that you've done a brilliant job! Another great lesson for us in how to approach things. Thank you.

Best wishes
Nigel

Bud,
Your over paint is excellent! I hope I nail my yellow fuselage as well as you have your wings!

Bud, ditto Rick's comments and Rick, I'm sure you will do as well.

Thanks, guys!  Ernie, I'm embarrassed to admit this, but the red is from a Tamiya rattle can.  I like lacquers (yes, I know, they can kill you and they're bad for the environment).  In my opinion, they are the most durable of paints and they go on smoothly.  I usually only use rattle cans when the weather is too crappy for airbrushing, but I really like this color.

I have all of the white painted now.  It looks much better in reality.

Although the rest of the plane isn't quite ready yet, I couldn't resist testing the decals.

More soon.
Cheers,
Bud

Hi Bud,

This looks amazingly good. Is it common to overpaint the lozenge? I'm admiring your work all the way from the cabin to the fuselage and wings. Congratulations you are really top class.

Kind regards

Patrick

Bud, my friend, rattle can or not, the paint is gorgeous! I think the red and white of
Jasta 18 is one of the best colour schemes and you have more than done it justice.
Looking forward to the next updates.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Thanks, Patrick!  Yes, all Fokker D.VII's came from the factory with either streaked fabric (Fokker) or printed lozenge fabric (Albatros, OAW and later Fokker).  When individual or unit markings were applied in the field, the original factory finish was simply painted over, often showing through ever so slightly.  Sometimes, if a ship survived, wear and weather would take it's toll on the painted finish allowing the fabric to show through even more.  This is what I'm trying to acheive with mine.
Cheers,
Bud

Hello Bud, it really is so much more than trying. It is perfection. Now that I know the reason why, it is even more attractive to me. Well done Bud!

Kind regards

Patrick

Thanks again, Ernie!  Yeah, I love the Jasta 18 schemes.  That Pheon sheet has so many options, I'm gonna have to do a Pfalz and an Albatros in red and white, as well.
Cheers,
Bud
