Hello Rick:

I am just now catching up on your build.  I think you have done an outstanding job with the yellow.  You can see the lozenge through the overspray but it isn't overwhelming.  It looks just right.  Yellow is one of those colors, (a primary color) like red that if not done right tends to look toy like.  You have done well and it certainly doesn't look toy like.  It looks like a simple scheme but is quite difficult to pull off.  I can't make out the subtle weathering you have done due to your camera difficulties but I can make out some rib details etc.  I am working on the DVII F at this time as well and am about four pages behind you, so I will be watching your build as you progress.
Best

Thanks Ernie, Taking a little longer than I thought. The fin for some reason gave me fits. Ended up removing the paint(and Lozenge twice). I finally left off the lozenge and sprayed a straight yellow. I will go back with some cadmium yellow oil to simulate the lozenge beneath. The fin and rudder are attached now and the cross is on. More tomorrow.

Dave,
I am sure you will be more than up for the challenge! I am still debating whether to pre or post shade my lozenge on the wings. Right now I am leaning towards pre  :-\

Mark, Thanks for the comments! Yes the yellow is an interesting color to use in an overpaint! As I said earlier, deciding when to stop painting is the key! I am Looking forward to seeing your build!!

This scheme is really going to stand out Rick, very effective.  With my build rate I'll get to do my DVII in about 3 years...

Thanks Ian, that is one reason I chose the scheme! As for build rate I could very well set a personal record for the last ten years or so. I have completed ,since January this year:
1. WNW Fokker DVII:Fok early
2. WNW Sopwith Triplane
3. Roden Nieuport 28 1/32nd

If I finish this one before December 31st that will be 4, yes FOUR finished in one year!

Hi Rick,

About build rate, one must consider the rate of difficulty of the builds too, and also the grade of finishing which is always of high standard in your builds (e.g. your Nieuport) . So I think I will easely beat (downwards) your building speed. And look at the one your busy with : outstanding!

Kind regards
Patrick

Thanks Patrick! I have made some progress and My Aviattic Lozenge( Fokker Built Cookie Cutter) decals arrived today!  :D So now a question. Those that have used Aviattic decals, Should I pre shade?, Use pastels? Oil washes along the ribs like the DVa pictures I posted earlier? What have you had success with? Let me know!

I have done the preshading using Artists Oils. My method is straight forward. Mix 50/50 Mars Black and Burnt Sienna. With a small pointed brush make a line or dots next to the rib edge. Wipe running parallel to the rib, ( this gives an edge to the rib) then rub away excess going across the rib. This outlines the ribs and adds just a touch of color between. The pictures show the process. The final pictures show the wings glossed and ready for the decals.

Looking forward to seeing how this (great looking) pre-shading looks when the decals go on.  I have some Aviattic lozenge too, so I watch with interest!

Awesome preshading technique, amigo!  Gonna have to give that one a try.  What's the drying time on the oils?
Cheers,
