My haul of goodies from Telford and beyond.

I'm particularly pleased to have finally found a 72nd scale Nie 11. The only one I've seen since I started looking was in the USA and the price was over £20 (not to mention postage and taxes that would be on top of that!). This one cost me Five Pounds only.

Firstly - Squiffy, I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you and Guy at the weekend - perhaps another time?

For once I didn't buy any kits but stocked up on all sorts of bits and pieces, virtually all related to this area of modelling - paints, ordinary and metallic, Ushi's 'Blitz' driers for oils and some of his metal powder, nickel wire etc etc. Though intending not to I simply could not resist two of the Gaspatch machine guns (Spandau and Lewis) and a couple of Wings figures (RFC) crept into the bag as well  ::) BTW Des - I finally got some Aeroclub bezels  :)

The usual Cross and Cockade calendar to adorn the workbench and these two books were another irresistible purchase

Both have superb coverage of their subject in two quite different formats. The Dolphin book is quite conventional with the usual period images, detail shots and lovely line drawings as well as some superb colour profiles. An in depth coverage and a lovely book to own.

The DR1 book on the other hand, after a short introductory text and period images, changes to page after page of beautiful computer drawn images of every aspect of the airframe, engine and armament. A true detailers delight.  Somewhat novel - at first thought, perhaps rather gimmicky - is a short section at the back containing 3D rendered images (the necessary 'spectacles' are included) Having looked at the 'wrong' images at the show I wasn't impressed at the 'non 3D effect' but after finding the correct section this afternoon I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the effect was. The images surge into 3D and the further back you move from the page the more the effect grows. Personally I wouldn't say this is a bonus from a modelling point of view but it is rather different and somewhat delightful.

Both books were bought of course in anticipation of pending Wingnuts releases - they are doing a Dolphin and a DR1 to go with the Camel aren't they  ;)

That said of course I regret to say I am now quite spent out for the rest of the year.

Regards - Tug

A nice pair of books Tug, I have read reviews of the Dr.1 book and it gets very good reviews. Glad you found the Aeroclub Bezels, they are well worth having.

Great catch, FF! I've been acquiring a lot of the same kits lately.

I have to ask, did the post use your box as a football?! :o  I hope there's no damage to your kits! I wouldn't be very happy if my boxes came in that condition.

I've also been collecting armour kits for the last few months. Thanks to Des, we now can show our stuff here!

Here's Takom's Mk A Whippet in 1/32 scale. I've already started building it and I'm at the pre-shading stage. I'll start a build log soon.

Here are more of my recent purchases:

This is Flyhawk's 1/72 Renault FT-17. It comes with two kits in one box. The penny in the photo is all I have left after blowing all my cash on tanks! ;D

yes, the box got a right old kicking (as did the model boxes themselves).... but just getting here (Qatar) feels like a minor miracle!  All ok inside however  :) There seems to be a real groundswell happening here - great to see.  A small distraction from the smell of burnt castor oil....

cheers

Carol bought this from a friend of ours for the original WNW price then promptly snatched it away from me till Christmas.

And these all came in the mail over the past week.  The Aviattic CDL and the Scale Spokes  wire wheels are for the DFW.  Of course many of you will recognize Bertl's brilliant tubing cutter.  I don't know how I ever managed without it.

Cheers,
Bud

Very nice Bud. It looks like a great Christmas for you.

Can you provide a link for purchasing Bertl's tubing cutter? I'd like to get one.

Best wishes
Nigel
