I needed a relaxing, nostalgic build for my next project. I?ve always wanted to build this kit but not willing to pay the exorbitant price for an 1973 original. I found an open but complete Chinese re-issue on EBay for cheap. The plan is to build a unique livery and add a little extra detail. My biggest challenge will be painting the figure. I?ve never been any good at figures and always avoided them.

The kit consists of three sprues of red molded parts and one sprue of heavy chrome plated parts:

The fuselage and Barron figure have an excellent fit despite the age of the molds
.

There are some problematic mold releases on the flying surface undersides.
These were filed off and filled with putty, then sanded smooth.

Next I started adding some Dr.1 details.
.

The Barron was primed with Tamiya white, then overpainted flat black.

After the black dried, I lightly sprayed flat white from a topside angle. This highlights the raised areas.
.

Next I began applying light glaze washes of Tamiya flesh tone. I only have two layers here before I had to wrap up till next weekend.
.

I?m having great fun doing something different and learning new techniques. Looking forward to building up the Hemi engine!
Thanks for looking in!
