Hello Des:

My wife (God Bless her) got me the WNW Early Snipe for my birthday.  I thought she would, but you never know with women.  She wrapped it and gave it me before we went out last night.  What a lady!  I will be following your build closely.

Best

Mark

Mark,
An "Early" Snipe for your Birthday......................hard to beat. She's a "keeper" Mark! My wife gave me all three DVII's for Christmas, they have either figured us out or have decided it's pointless to try to change the way it is......what it is!
Cheers,
Lance

I assembled the engine last night, it is beautifully engineered, very well detailed and goes together like a dream. I added the ignition leads, for these I used 0.07mm plated copper wire, the forward leads run between the cylinders and the inlet manifolds. I painted the engine following Wingnuts recommendations, Humbrol  27003 Steel, I gave it a good buff when it was dry. The engine is now fitted to the airframe.

Des,
Great looking engine. Did you add plugs or are the one's seen here original? This kit looks like a real prize, I'm looking forward to mine (Early Version) arriving and a chance to examine it first hand. Nice work on this one, the colour scheme should  make it unique and a real conversation piece.
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks Lance.  The plugs are the originals, they are very well done and didn't need changing, just a simple matter of adding ignition leads.

  Des,
Her engine is nothing short of awesome my old friend. I'm amazed at the detail straight from the box. As always this is another outstanding project from your most talented bench.

The struts have been painted and trial fitted, the locating pins are excellent especially for the cabane struts. The metal brackets on the struts are not painted black on this particular aircraft, they were the same grey as the struts. The engine cowl is painted and fitted, it has been painted with Humbrol 27001 aluminium, as you can see the engine cowl hides most of the beautifully detailed engine. The entire model, apart from the engine cowl, has been sprayed with a 50/50 mix of Humbrol Satin and Matt clear, gives a nice satin finish.

Thanks for all the nice comments, much appreciated.

Lindsay - The instructions call for Dark Green Semi Gloss and they give Humbrol No.88 or Tamiya XF70 as a colour guide. I have Humbrol No.88 (Deck Green) and in my eyes looks nothing like the colour profile in the instructions, so I used Gunze H421 Brown Violet.

Steve - The buildability of this kit would have to be as near to perfect as you can possibly get, the fit of parts is exceptional and no fiddling at all is needed to assemble the kit. The engineering in this kit, and the previous Hannover, has to be the best that Wingnuts have produced. They say they make their kits to be user friendly, well, this one certainly is, and being so easy to assemble makes the build time a lot quicker. The only process on this kit that will take as long as any other kit is the rigging, this is something that can't be rushed and there are no short cuts.

Des,
You are the second persom I have seen comment on the outstanding engineering and buildability of this kit! From what I gather not even the Tamiya Spitfire is any better. I am looking forward to your further progress and eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Early Version Snipe.

She's really looking stunning with the markings, Des.  As always, a beautiful, clean, flawless project.  I really am looking forward to seeing her finished.
Cheers,
Bud

It is an interesting scheme all right.  It is coming along nicely Des; too bad that cowling hides all the work you did on the engine.  I have the early version and will be reviewing your build as I do mine.  Probably next or next to next.

Too bad Tamiya isn't forward thinking enough to do a 1/32nd scale WW1 kit.  I think it would be a big seller for them.

Best

Thanks everyone for your kind words, as always very much appreciated.

Mark - Tamiya would produce a brilliant 1:32 scale WW1 aircraft kit but they would have a very high price on the product, no company could compete with Wingnuts on price and now quality.

RagIII - I can't say enough about the buildabilityof this kit, it is superb. Wingnuts have eased up a bit on their customary very tight tolerances making this kit so much easier to put together.

Exceptional work Des...  As expected from your workbench!

I wasn't taken by this kit at first, just because of the look of it, but your build is making me change my mind :)

How on earth do you keep your models so pristine?  You must handle them wearing the kind of gloves that butlers wear for handling silver or museum curators with ancient artifacts!

Hello Des, lovely work as usual. How many hours a day do you get to model as your output is astonishing.

I'm interested in your comments on the colours as the Xf-70 doesn't look right either to their profile. I sometimes use the brown violet for pc10 so I have some of that and this scheme was my first choice although I might go silver as you can't go wrong with that.

Des,

Really looking the part now - I'm very pleased to read that this kit goes together well.  My wife has ordered for my upcoming birthday.  Wingnuts have dispatched today so should receive it in good time!

I'm mainly an OOB kit builder - do you think this will still look good without any super detailing work?
