The engine cowling.
This consists of three parts which were attached to the fuselage by means of quick-release fasteners.
On the model, the rear of the cowling parts were milled down considerably.
The primer was applied with semi-gloss black, then Mr. Metalcolor "Aluminum" polishing paint, which was polished after drying, and then the actual brown camouflage paint.
This was not applied fully opaque, but slightly cloudy.
Immediately afterwards, the paint was dabbed off the edges and quick-release fasteners with a short-haired brush and a little water.
A scratch was made across the short corners with the tip of a toothpick to give the impression that the metal sheets had been slightly bent during assembly due to carelessness.
Finally, a light cloud of "smoke" was applied.
The maintenance hatch on the left fairing was replaced with an etched part ? the quick release fastener for this is a flattened 0.3 mm Evergreen stick.
The shiny spots above each mouth are sprayed clear coat ? the eye decals will be positioned there later.

That looks terrific Bertl, and thanks for sharing your technique/method. The end result looks very realistic to my eye.

Yesterday I cleaned the windows and then hung up the curtains while they were still damp in the evening... or something like that.

From the back, i.e. the inside, white paint still needs to be applied to the area around the curtain decals ? I think I'll do that with oil paint.

I never cease to be fascinated and amazed by the sharpness of Wingnut Wings decals.
For your information, one of these "Milit?r - Flugzeug" type plates measures only 0.75 mm in height and 4.8 mm in length.

The tiny spot on the wing tip is also a decal, the acceptance stamp of the Central Acceptance Commission (ZAK).
Under a magnifying glass, the "ZAK" is just about legible.

To give you an idea, here is an original picture of the underside of a Fokker D.VII (OAW) Topwing.
The small ZAK stamp in the red circle is located on the model on the wing tip.

I am currently applying color pigments to the chassis to make the dirt marks look a little more realistic.
I am using model pigments from the manufacturer "AMMO" for this.
I'm not done yet, but here's a picture to give you an idea of how it will look:

You can see the axle piece nicely in the center of the wheel.
This was scratch-built afterwards - it was very unattractive straight out of the kit.
It was relatively easy to do:
I took an Evergreen round rod with the right diameter, drilled a hole through it, then drilled a 0.2 mm hole in the side and pushed a hot-drawn plastic sprue through it as a cotter pin and cut it to length.
The cotter pin is held in place simply because the hot-drawn sprue is slightly thicker at one end than at the other.
The paint now holds it in place anyway.
The washer between the wheel and the axle pin consists of a 0,13mm thin Evergreen plate that has been punched out and drilled in the center.
The reproduced axle ends were painted with 50/50 semi-gloss black and matte black.

The claw brake also had to endure a bit of makeup.
Apparently, it was used to brake our Roland D.II hard on the landing field shortly before.
The ?dirt? is actual dirt, straight from the garden?stuck to the claw with heavily watered-down white glue.
The torn-out blades of grass are also part of the garden soil.

Once again your skill and attention to detail are breathtaking.
