Impressive work on a impressive kit! Superb as always!

A question: what is the background of the brown? color of the shutter plates of the front?
I checked the manual of my 1/48 Gaspatch kit and there is was stated, that those plates was made of aluminium.
Just as interest fro my future build of this bird :)

Cheers,
Frank

Hi Frank,
Although the radiator shutters were Aluminium, it seems many were painted with a Chestnut Brown dope.
The 'Wingnut Wings' manual states that either can be used.
I chose the doped colour and for 'Tamiya' paint it's a mixture of the following:
   NATO Brown (XF68) - 10 drops
   Flat Aluminium (XF16) - 2 drops
   Sky Grey (XF19) - 1 drop.

Once painted I sponged on Weathering Master Set D (oil stain) over the leading edges of the shutters,

Mike

I have to admit I hadn't popped in here until today as the Salmson is something I've never really cared for, but your work is turning me around. The engine and cowl are beautiful, and the interior is gorgeous!

I hope you can share some photos of the Vulcan.

Hi KiwiZac,
Thanks.
The Vulcan B Mk.2 is getting close to being completed, but I still have the display case to finish as well.
As the forum is specific to WW1 subjects, I'll not post photographs of the Vulcan B Mk.2 here.
However, I will add a link to shots of the completed model at the end of this thread if that's OK,

Mike,
You can add all the photos you wish to in "The World of Scale Models" topic right here. I too would enjoy seeing photos of that beauty!

Fantastic work, amazing. I came back because I’m contemplating do a French aircraft all doped or camouflaged. Need to source those greens and coffee colours of course:)

Hi all,
I've decided to change the model to represent Salmson 2-A2, Serial number 381, of Escadrille SAL 28.
No reason other than I like the unit's elephant marking,

Excellent choice! I couldn't resist the elephant marking myself.... excited to see the result. Looks great so far!

Hi all,
A few updates on the Salmson 2-A2 build.

The front end is coming together now.
The engine assembly is fitted with the painted access panels.
The three on the left side are being left off as the intention is to have a mechanic working on that area.
I've added the twin cross bracing wires to the front bay frame (0.08 mm mono-filament, 0.4 mm diameter blackened Brass tube and 'GasPatch' 1:48th scale turnbuckles (Type C).
I've also added the access panel metal support ring around the front of the engine support beams.
The 'GasPatch' replacement Vickers machine gun and the mounting recess in the panel have been slightly modified to fit.
Also the carburettor air intake pipe has been drilled out as it was moulded solid.

Now it's onto adding more detail such as wiring, terminal box, cables etc to the exposed structure, using photographs as a guide,

Awesome!
I assume the ejector marks will be hidden by other parts?

Hi all,
Yes there's a whole lot of stuff in the side bay area that I want to represent and it will cover the elector pin marks.
It's difficult to know exactly what it all is or where its all attached to, but I'll add something there,

Very nice.
And I see that the location of ejection pin marks has not been changed since 2014 when I built mine  ;D  But I have covered that space... because I gave up the task to discover what all those lines were, and where did they go. Since that time I have a feeling that Salmson was the most complex aircraft of WW1. I am looking forward to see your interpretation, Mike.
