WnW Sopwith Camel USAS
« on: October 09, 2021, 01:13:27 PM »
Hello all,
I have recently wrapped up the interior of my USAS camel after starting it back in August. It's been a bit of a struggle so far with having to repaint a few parts I wasn't happy with. I used the HGW seatbelts and used copper wire to wrap the control stick hang grips to give them some raised details. I also managed to snap off the back two struts, but it looks like it should be an easy fix once I align the top wing. Looking forward to moving on to the fuselage. Cheers!
- Patrick

I never get tired of those Camel drivers!
You're off to a great start.

Are those sink marks on the top rail at the cockpit opening?  On a WNW kit?

That's a beautiful job on the instrument panel Patrick, in fact the entire interior is outstanding. Snapped off struts you say? With my record in that regard all I can possibly say is, as Rick puts it, welcome to the club! Keep up the excellent standard, she's looking like a really outstanding Model already!
Cheers,
Lance

Yes, they are. I remember covering those rails with an alu foil bits on my builds.

After closing up the fuselage and preparing to paint, I have a choice to make. I have decided on the two schemes below, but am wondering which to do. On one hand, there has not been many Blue Nose "18" Camels created from this kit (or at least an absence of many pictures of blue nose camels floating around the internet). However this is an interwar Camel with an unremarkable pedigree. On the other hand, the Red Nose Camel "4" has been modeled extensively as there are 4 or 5 great renditions I have seen, including one in person at this years US IMPS Nats. Camel "4" saw action during the war, and has a more impressive background than "18". I can also attest none of the machines I fly on the daily have any kills to their names either, yet this doesn't make them any less impressive of machines. Decisions.... suggestions welcome!

I would go for blue as I prefer choosing colour schemes not done by others.
And if you wish to have a more man-of-war Camel, you can later build a second one in British livery, one flown by so many WW1 aces..
