I prefer the blue too. No special reason, I just like the colour!

Debating whether this chipping is too much, or rather if it looks authentic. I know camels were typically not in service very long, and a post war camel perhaps wouldn't have as much wear as its veteran counterparts... thoughts?

Personally , I like it just the way it is . You have just the right amount with out going over board which is easily done

+1 for the chipping as it is: its not too much, particularly for the larger scale, and says "a used but not abused" post-War aeroplane.

Cheers,
Mark

The chipping looks good.  Even though these planes were not in service long, they got beat up quickly and the paint quality was not what it is today.

Grrr... got a ghost seam running the length of my camel.... suggestions on how to fix? Or should I just ignore it? The picture doesn't exactly do it justice. It's worse in person  :( ???

I think the chipping looks just about right.  Nice!

Nice interior work. I'm not a big fan of chipping, but looks good, not too little not too much.

Scribe the seam and fill with CA glue mixed with a little dark pigment.
Allow to cure, but not set up like concrete. Polish, prime...good to go!

I think you should ignore the seam. How many times do you look at the underside of the plane? You could also try to conceal the seam with a little bit of dust and mud sprinkles.

Sorry I missed an update but I think the chipping looks fine! As for the seam, it all depends on what you are satisfied with! If you feel you must eliminate the seam then Bob's suggestion sounds good.

Patrick - I have to say your cockpit is exquisite and beautifully detailed. The chipped paint look definitely works "as is" in my humble opinion. Although leaving that bottom seam alone since it is hardly noticeable is one option, if it looks worse in person as you say - reworking it may give you piece of mind, and the extra time taken will be worth it in the end.
Cheers,
Gary

I appreciate all the responses regarding how to fix the ghost seam on the bottom of the fuselage. After cleaning that up, I painted the rest of the aircraft and applied the HGW wood grain decals made specifically for the camel. Unfortunately, unlike previous HGW woodgrain decals I've used these were slightly smaller than the panels they were designed for. No worries. What I should have done is mixed oil paint to match the tone of the decals to fill in the gaps. What I did however was try to use slivers of decals left over on the cockpit decking that were unused to fill the gaps, which didn't conform to the shape of the camel and left me left than satisfied.... so for a few hours tonight I scrapped of the decals and lacquer-thinner'd away the resulting mix of decal glue and Mr Surfacer 1500... no worries... time for new primer and good ole' oil paint wood grain!
