Love the different shades on the metal and fabric areas Ken. I'm very impressed by the glassy smooth finish to the paint too. Perfect airbrushing technique!

Second that!

And I admire the beautiful crisp details.

Brilliant work and the different colours add that extra detail that really sets one build off from the other and its a very simple thing at that... which makes it even more clever!

Thanks for stopping by, folks.  A small update - I think I have the basic colors on the fuselage now.  Next will be some decals, then some clear coats before some washes and weathering.  The decal set I have had the #7 in black, but I believe it should be red, so I made a mask using the Silhouette cutter and painted red 7s.

While waiting for paint to dry, I covered the landing gear axle/ spreader bar.  Photos of the real ones showed them to be doped linen that I believe was stitched on.  I CA'ed some paper over the axle and detailed with 3 strips, then painted.  It looks as rough as the real ones.

'Till next time...

Really taking shape now Ken. You have done an excellent job on the spreader bar. Paper seems to be the easiest fix to Me.

Thanks, Rick.  A little more to show now.

And now - the decal issue.  The decal film that FFSMC used is excellent - very thin and easily positioned on the model.  Even the die cutting around the images is fine.  The printing leaves something to be desired.  It looks like an inkjet print.  The issue is that the image density it is not consistent.  The decals have quite a bit of translucence, but that's not the issue.  They look good - like they belong on the model, but of the two chicken decals, one is less transparent than the other.  The result is that the blue band around the chicken is not the same color on each side.  One side is lighter and greener than the other.  There's nothing I can do about it now, so, I'm moving ahead.

Wheels before weathering.

After what seems like a long while, this build is finally looking like its going somewhere.

Oh I see a spoke on the wheel. I guess there is a full set of spokes behind the fabric?
Sorry, I just see spokes everywhere. ::)

That will be great SPAD, more amazing with every update.

Cheers,
Frank

Thanks for leaving the comments, guys.
Frank - you are seeing spokes everywhere.  But you're looking at valve stems.   ;D
As for the spokes, I'm not saying how many there are.

I've put in the panel fasteners and worked on putting the radiator and cowling on.  Need to start thinking about washes and weathering.

Your SPAD is really looking awesome with the markings in place! The slight variation in the blue is not bad, who knows it could actually happen on the real bird  8)
Once weathered the difference will probably not even be seen!

A few shots showing where I am.  The front end is on now.  Work on this may slow a bit as I'm now working on a group build project on another website.  A little diversion should keep the interest and motivation up on this.

Panel fastener detail.

The front end.

The landing gear is next and some fittings details.

Thanks for following along.
