Roden 1/32nd Nieuport 24bis SPA 124: Part Two( 2.5)
« on: March 24, 2021, 03:43:50 AM »
I had started this one as part of a dual build a few years ago.

https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=9993.0

With the Compressor down and not much I could do on the Nieuport 28 I went back and have begun to resurrect the build.  The cockpit is moving forward. I added a little simulated copper tubing and a clear pulsator otherwise OOB.

It will be interesting to see you finish this one Rick. Looking forward to seeing another of your French builds completed.

Stephen.

Thanks Stephen. This is most likely Rodens Most Challenging build in 1/32nd scale. Someone who represented Roden on another Forum said the mold was originally intended for a "Limited Run" small company but when WNW hit the scene they took it on as their own. I don't know that to be fact but it does seem a bit different in some respects from their other kits. I also remembered that I had difficulty with the framework and substituted the frame from the Hobby Craft Nieuport 17 modified to work with some of the kit parts.

Thanks and glad to have you here! One other thing I remembered. The kit seat back was copied in thinner sheet styrene and was much easier to bend to shape  :D

And the next build .... you are really a modeling machine at the moment!
It is always good to give a shelf queen a second chance to be finished, which is what I should do too.

Cheers,
Frank

Not a lot of progress but did add seat belts. Now just need to paint the buckles and touch up all of the interior. Also need to add control wires.

Maybe my eyes are failing me Rick, (although I had an eye test recently and they reported no problems!), but I cannot see what needs touching up.... I just see a very good model or better.

Stephen.

Hello, Rick -

Brilliant work so far!

I will be following this one with interest.

Just be aware there is an issue getting the interplane struts to align correctly.   I had real problems here (most likely down to me) and ended up giving up on it.

Very best of luck on a not so easy kit.

Regards

Dave

Thanks Dave! One certainly needs to approach this kit as though it is a "Limited Run" kit! Expect to have to "Work Out" fit issues. I spent a couple of hours yesterday trying to thin down the cowling so the engine would fit. In the end I still had to sand some of the head detail away from the engine. Stephen Lawson said the lower wings were too long by something like 1/8 or 1/4 of an inch each.( I cant remember which right now) That would make a considerable difference in where the struts line up!  When I get there MY plan is to mount the upper wing on the cabanes and trim the lowers as needed before gluing to the fuselage and interplane struts. We shall see how that goes  ::)
