I wasn't going to do a build log but then figured "What the Heck". This one will be built as a SPAD VII from 19 Squadron RFC. I will be using the Eduard PE set as well as a modified Gaspatch Vickers and Archer Transfers stitching. One thing I recalled when I pulled this one off of the pile was that this was the Kit awarded after the Des Delatore GB, not the DR1 as I had stated in error during My DR1 builds.

The kit:

and the references:

and where I am in the build to date:

I suck at trying to assemble and glue PE seats. So I copied the Eduard seat to sheet plastic.

Spent shell chute added using strip styrene. Not perfect but not much will be seen so adequate for My build. This is not necessary if building a French SPAD VII as Roden supplies the correct chute and box for those:

Eduard seatbelts added:

Thanks Amigo Still needs some touch up work. I am not going to go too crazy on the interior having learned how little is actually seen from building the 3 SPAD XIII's.

I had wondered where you had been recently Rick: good to see you back.

I too am not a fan of PE - much easier to make most parts in plastic (unless you are Frank of course!)

Rick, again a SPAD? And only one at a time?
Ah, searched back, last time it was 13 and now a 7 :)

The seating surface looks nice with the PE mesh.

Good luck and have fun!

You're off to a good start on this, Rick.
What's the easiest way to tell a SPAD VII from a SPAD XIII?  (the question is not a test of your knowledge, I would just like to know).

I am glad I am not alone. I learned yesterday that the small PE parts like switches are just too small for me to see and handle. I probably should have used the kit IP.

Thanks Ken. The easiest way is the following depending on the view. Single Vickers, Vertical cabanes on the 7 vs slanted on the 13, and the rudder shape.( more rounded on the 13 at the rear.)
RAGIII

So I have been busy. I wasn't happy with the spent shell chute so I made version 2. Better but as I figured only the very bottom will be seen! Everything is installed in the interior and the fuselage glued together.

Just a hint at what will be seen once the fuselage top is glued in place.

I have progressed since the above photos but haven't taken any pics yet. Perhaps later today. Here are the schemes I am considering: ( Pulled off of the web in a search)

I am leaning heavily towards the second. Time to contact von Buckles about serial number stencils  ::)

RAGIII

PS: Some of you May remember how My first SPAD VII ended years ago...and the culprit whose wings knocked it off of the case  ;D

This is where I am at the end of todays' session. Just a bit of filling and sanding needed on the engine cowling and panels. Better fit than I acheived on My first one  ::)
