Gotha G.1 - Feodora (Wingnut Wings, 1/32)
« on: August 01, 2019, 06:24:45 AM »
This is the result of my impatience. I decided not to wait until this model is available in my country but wanted to feel that thrill which was so common a few years ago when the WNW kits were flying from New Zealand. I have paid much more than will be called when buyimg the model here  - including delivery, VAT, etc. But I do not regret.
So I have my Gotha for almost one month now. And I have taken its huge box with me for holidays - I spent several afternoons and evenings cleaning the parts from a lot of flash and traces of mould halves misplacement - yes, I insist the quality of WNW manufacture decreased recently. But even so, when you spend some more time with sanding paper, files and scalpel, what emerges from this work is still the top quality kit elements with excellent fit.
I managed to clean all the parts and put them thematically into separate string-bags.

I have also done some basic assembly, too (like the uper wings root bits, which required care with the seam lines, unfortunately I had to remove one stitch line over the rib - will have to remake it later)

And when back home I could start with proper assembly. I decided to start with Benz Bz.III engines where I added electric wires and valve push rods as I plan to build my model with side engine covers off.

Here the engines are tentatively put on the bearers and test fitted with nacelles to the lower wing centre section. The last added items will be the fuel lines but I will do it only after setting the engines on the bearers for good. And of course this shiny look will be spoilt significantly with dirt.

Also some substantial filling and sanding was necessary with late style exhausts - now after a primer coat it seems they are ready for final colouring and assembly.

That is a good start Prez. I do like your jig for holding the engines.... Looking forward to seeing this built by a master modeller.

Stephen.

you don't loose time with that one. Great start on that huge plane and I am sure there will be another gem from your bench.

Good start, Prez, I will follow your build eagerly!
Concerning the lower quality of the moulding: My guess is that this could be the reason for the comparatively low price of the (huge) kit.

wow Przemo, Great start on the engines! Too bad about the misaligned molds and flash. I am hoping this will not be the Norm for WNW future! I will follow along of course.

I do like your jig for holding the engines.

Great Prze  ;)

I too, thought that the plastic quality had dropped a tad with the Halberstadt- as you say, nothing wrong but a little more clean up required. This was reinforced when I started an older DH9a - the quality was definitely better.

Thank you all for your cheering and kind words.

Some progress of today.
Dark wood test panel, I am quite satisfied with the hue - the final coat is with acrylic brown transparent paint from Minitaire range.

Rear fuselage and lower wing assembled ( front fuselage just clicked on to show the size of the beast). The joints will need some care, as usual.

Engine nacelles painted inside, assembled (the joint to be sanded) and put temporarily on the central section

and the weathered engines added to see the fit and the play of the colours

Nice work, as I have come to expect from you, Przemol.
This should be another impressive build to follow.

Przemo,
I'm here and staring at your work, and maybe I can use what I see here, who knows? Although, after recent announcements, nothing is certain yet ...
I have not seen Minitaire yet in use. Very good effect of dark wood, and how does it look in practice?
