Fokker D.VII OAW Leusch, Eduard 1/48, Update 23.6.2019 Airscrew
« Reply #63 on: June 23, 2019, 10:59:20 PM »
Thank you Terri, in real it is even a bit darker, not so bright as on the pictures.

And the next lark ...

Airscrew

Airscrew? This was done on first page? Yes, but the mounting is missing.
A 2mm brass tube with 1.05mm inside, thinned on my lathe. On a 1mm brass shaft I soldered a bit PE with hole, and turned it too. A second piece PE is prepsared.

The shaft is inserted, the second PE soldered and turned/filed. The diameter an the end should be smaller as bushing.

Tinned, together with the two hubs of the PE set. Drilled 1mm in the PE parts.

Bolted on both sides with 0.2mm nickel silver.

The back side:

The engine is loosely in place and can accommodate the construction. Will be glued in place as last step.

The airscrew runs very smooth and easily now ;)

Cheers,
Frank

Thanks Rick!

The logo on the rudder in the following picture (decals 91/92) seems to be the Albatros logo?

According to the anthology some OAW built Fokker had it on the rudder.
Hm, I don't have such logos in the kit :(

Found some in a Albatros weekend kit, but I hope they are not to big.

Outstanding work, Andreas!
Yes, the decals 91,92 are Albatros logos.

Thank you my friends!

Engine

The last picture of the last update shows a unpainted engine. According to the Eduard manual the engine should be mounted much earlier, but I read somewhere, that it could be mounted later.

Why I waited so long? Some time ago I found the Mercedes D III/IIIa made by Vector (Small Stuff is doing the inline engines only in in 1/72) and the delivery takes some time. Arrived, but there is light ...

Very nice details! Some gates a removed already. Please note the securing screws of the cylinders.

but also deep shadow: the size!
The Eduard engine matches but the resin valve springs shows, that it is to long ;(

Since in this Fokker nothing can be seen from the engine I will stay with the kit engine.
The parts are painted with Alclads. I know, there is further detailing possible, but nothing is visible 8)

The exhaust again, the outlet was opened.

After a wash with oils the engine was mounted. Yes, it is possible, but the carburettor with the intake pipes have to be glued to the engine inside the fuselage! But the masking of the fuselage was easier.

And the exhaust side:

The Vector engine will take place in another model with enough space later.

Cheers,
Frank

Great job! It’s a frequent problem with resin aftermarket engines. The kit’s engines are reduced in size to fit perfectly but the restin engines are true to scale but too large for the kit. I think you found a great way to deal with that.

The problem of the undersized kit engines is often with rotaries, but here you see also a Windsock drawing below, so here the kit in in scale and the resin one is to big (I guess the drawing is correct).

Still some things to be done, but without a big accident this bird will be finished prior the deadline.

Cheers,
Frank

Amazing work - especially the screw - at any scale let alone 1:48! Fantastic.
