Fokker D.VII OAW

After all the big scale entries here I like to take part with the first entry in quarter scale:
the yellow/blue Fokker D.VII OAW flown by Wilhelm Leusch, Jasta 19, October 1918

The kit is untouched, PE set added (may be I will use more e.g. Master MGs) and the GB picture with Des is visible.

I would like to finish the Bristol fighter before, but since here is not so much rigging to do I hope to be able to finish it in time.

Cheers
Frank

This is a beautiful simpler subject to tackle, and should look beautiful in your capable hands, Frank!

Thank you my friends for your encouraging words.
But a Fokker D.VII is a mine field: everyone knows it and you can make a lot of mistakes. There are lots of varinats: Fokker, Albatros, OAW build, seemingly endless permutations of engine cowling desgin, lozenge ....
So there is also a careful study of ressources required.

Cheers,
Frank

Fokker D.VII OAW Leusch, Eduard 1/48, Update 17.3.2019 Air screw
« Reply #9 on: March 18, 2019, 05:57:28 AM »
Thank you my friends for this premature praise! I hope I will be able to fullfil your high expectations ;)

Air screw

After the huge Brisfit project is finished I can move over here to really start the group build.

At fist as usual some reseach, so I will use:
- the manual of the kit

- The Fokker D.VII Anthology 1

- The Fokker D.VII Anthology 2, mostly about OAW built D.VII

- The Fokker D.VII Anthology 3, this one contains the known picture of the Leusch Fokker.

Source of Anthology pics: windsockdatafilespecials.co.uk

- and even if in big scale the manual of WNW:

Source: wingnutwings.com

Then is was clear, that I need a air screw of the Niendorf brothers from Luckenwalde.

So I cutted and thinned down some strips of veneer, glued together:

After sanding a raw air screw, still a bit thick:

More final form:

And the back side:

First layer of primer:

Primed and polished:

Airbrushed with MRP Clear Red-Brown, after that Gunze Clear Yellow and Orange:

I'm not sure about the final color, so I wait for the aircraft. May be a bit darker, and a logo will be added too, followed by a layer of clear coat.

What do you think about it?

Cheers
Frank

Nice Frank, really beautiful. Maybe a little bit too much on the red side for a Niendorf air screw.

Magnificent work Frank. I too have to say I find it a bit too "reddish" in color. A more natural brown appearance would be my suggestion. The Anthologies are wonderful books, every time I open mine I find something new! Good luck with your Build.
Cheers,
Lance

Too red for the prop.
Looking forward to seeing your amazing detail work.
