Very glad to see you starting this one, Frank!  I've got this kit (with the sadly empty flask), the Hisso and Viper kits and the night fighter boxing, so 5 in all.  I've got one on the bench now (just interior wood painted) and I also intend to do a Home Defense fighter, the one flown by Gilbert Insall, VC.  I'll be following yours closely as a guide for mine.
Cheers,
Bud

Glad to see you on this one Frank.  That radiator looks magnificent and you are right, it is a kit on its own.

That radiator is stunning, Frank!  Since the radiator is so prominent on the S.E.5a, the overall appearance of the model will be greatly enhanced by the extra work you put in to it.  Bravo!
Cheers,
Bud

Wonderful Frank. This will be another beauty on your shelf. I really like the care you put into the radiator.

Wow, Frank! That radiator looks real! To think it's in 1/48th... quite magnificent! I'm already totally hooked on this build!

Marc

As Monty has written, that radiator looks real. Why will the slats not work?

That will really make viewers take a second look when the model is completed.

Stephen.

Thank you my friends for your great feedback!

I hope to being able to finish this build after the actual restart. Last year I was bit surprised and somehow overstrained by the huge amount of small parts. So at that time it looked to me "a bit over engineered", and after the wood painting with oils, which needs some time to dry I lost the drive and started something different (Pfalz Triplane I think).
In meantime I prefer to do wood painting with acryls, so I can continue quickly.

Frank, who's paint is that brass from, it really looks the part.
The radiator was the last action last year, this was done with Alclad "Pale gold", with a some drops  "polished brass". Polished brass alone cannot be touched, it needs sealing.
Today I often used MRP-150 Brass, but this alone is sometimes a bit yellow, so I spray a thin layer of Alclad Pale gold on top of that.

As Monty has written, that radiator looks real. Why will the slats not work?
Stephen, this damn small slats are made from full resin (no look through) and are not single PE blades. I will forward your complain to Eduard, may be they will provide me a new working version. But in 1/48 the are feeling overburdened with such request, I guess ;)

Cheers,
Frank

Superb propellor Frank. What wood do you use for that? I would be very interested as I may recarve the propellor for the Gunbus but I do not know what to use or where to get it. Any information would be most welcome.

Stephen.

Thank you, Marc and Stephen!

Stephen, please jump to my neighbor thread of the Siemens-Schuckert, I explained it very detailed last week:
