LVG C.VI - Polish (1/32, Wingnut Wings)
« on: August 05, 2018, 05:27:42 AM »
The time has come for me to build this oldie kit from WNW. I missed the original boxing but when Camels were released, I grabbed one duellists set with the intention to build one of few Polish examples used in 1919/1920. My attention was drawn to the camouflaged aircraft from 7th Squadron, before it became the famous American-volunteer manned unit. There are four photos of this aircraft available - a rare treasure in our history range, isn't it?

As is pointed out in many places, even by the WNW themselves, the kit is basic as for the interior and has some serious omissions. Luckily, Jamo took many excellent photos (many thanks, James!!!) and made them available in this Forum, so there is a great source of knowledge for those who wish to correct some problems. I will try at least.

I have started with the Benz engine. I have chosen the cylinder bank parts without crude imitation of valve push rods and added them from silver wire. Missing electric cables leads were scratch built from plastic profile, together with the cables themselves. One is already attached, Also a few water pipes will need to be added, one of them is visible in the last photo among other bits - like the bands added on the magnetos it is still waiting for some paint.

Hello PrzemoL, a very very good start with the Benz engine.

Yes, this is a kit from the early days of Wingnut Wings and, unfortunately, fraught with many mistakes.
You're right, James has set a lot of very good pictures from the original (rebuilt) "Mia". Also many thanks from my side on this way to @Jamo.
PrzemoL, if you really want to banish EVERY mistake from this kit, then I wish you much spare time - you will need it.  :-\

.... I'm just back at my LVG and create the missing Walls and Formers in the engine-bay.

Thank you, Bertl, for looking into my project.
Well, That would be too insolent of mine to claim correcting all the mistakes. Yet, I will try to deal with the most striking ones. And yes, I remember your great thread showing your spectacular efforts. May I hope, that now, when Photobucket photos are back, could you possibly restart your thread... Please. :)

I really like your engine stand. Numerous times I've damaged an engine by setting it down and something tiny and fragile breaks. Your stand is perfect. Consider the idea blatantly stolen :-)

A very impressive start PrzemoL. Who would have thought a Wingnuts kit could ever be regarded as omitting detail or contain errors? It shows how far Wingnuts has come since 2009. The LVG is on my to-build list too but the Junkers D.1 just pushed it out of the No.1 next build position.

Please keep us updated with this build.

Having just finished the LVG "Mia" I'll be looking at this log for sure. If only to see everything I missed and that you will render more correctly! I already like your engine rendition much more than mine. Too late...

Cheers

Thank you for your interest and kind words. However, I really think we should all ask Bertl nicely to restart his thread.

And in the meantime, some more progress on the Benz.

Thanks, Artur.

The work on the engine is basically completed. There will be some further installations (fuel, linkages) to be added when it lands on its bearers.

YOu might notice that besides adding missing tubing and wires I hav modified the oil tank, which was too long.

Not only shortened the Oiltank, also a beautiful detail work on the levers of the ignition adjustment in the two Magnetos.

Love it!  ;)

Hawk eye! You have noticed that I tried to add it. Well, it is very simplified, but at least suggests something :)
Thanks, Bertl. :)
