Painting done!

I’ve painted the trailer in a pale green hue (as per Aviattic’s recommendation). I’ve used the black base for shadowing, then a paler mix for highlights. I picked out the raised detail with a paler again mix using a toothpick. Then a pin wash in the recesses followed by some dusting here and there with dry pigments.

The fuel cart is primarily painted with Alclad metallics - a base of aluminium with some magnesium and dark aluminium lowlights, the pipework is brass and the metal wheel rims and the rim of the tank are Humbrol polishing metallics - I love these - brush paint on then wait 5 mins, then polish (gently!) with my Dremel drill and a polishing pad. It’s like metal magic! The image doesn’t capture the look, but it looks just like metal in the flesh.

So, here’s where I’m at at the moment...

I’ve had some great tips from Manni re dioramas but I’m still at a stumbling block of how to proceed from here. If I use all my little it’s going to look too much of a jumble, so I think I’ve got to be very selective of what goes into it.

I really want it to be inside a hangar; a dirt flat floor with two hangar walls on a corner. I can’t find anything commercially that would fit for the walls and look like the inside of a WW1 hangar? Any ideas would be most welcome...

Cheers

All is looking Really Terrific! Love the trailer and fuel cart! As for hangar wall material if you are looking for plastic I will say that Plastruct makes a myriad of styrene sheet that is deeply grooved to represent wood planks. and could be painted to look like wood in the usual manner. Also look into G Gauge train stuff. Some of the materials are done in 1/32nd scale as the gauge varies widely in scale. If you are looking for real wood I am sure it is out there in Model RR accessories, just can't remember who makes it.

Thanks Gazza, Rick and Steve  ;)

And thanks for the advice Rick, it’s just that I’m such a newbie at dioramas - I really don’t know where to start.

I’ve seen a commercially made Factory wall and gates set that could work, not really what I had in mind, but I’m running low on ideas and it would at least get me started!

Thanks again Manni,

I have looked at these, but I think I’m going to go for the factory metal gates & wall from Diodump... they’ve got some excellent products!

Guy,

Take a look at this site for some ideas and inspiration:  http://www.boxdioramas.com/.  A hangar setting would be perfect for a box diorama.

Thanks Bill & Frank  ;D (nothing compared to yr lovely Bristol Fighter work Frank...)

Nice Bill, that’s what I wanted, but I couldn’t think how to achieve it. Bit more diorama practice required  ???

As I’ve said, I have now got an order in for a factory wall and gates, some paving and will see where that takes me.

Looking wonderful - I’ve been eyeing off this factory gate as well for some time for another long running project. I’m struggling to cut and paste links on my broken iPad  but you should check out the amazing diorama from our own forum member -Michael s - search ‘after the armistice - the trophy hunters’ (I think) - should get you there.

Cheers

Hi - look on the ‘large scale modeller’ website and there’s a build log under the WNW Diorama GB . Sorry I can’t cut and paste links at the moment.
