Still working my way through pre-build modifications.
All of the required rigging fittings are done now.
Now I'll be starting on the engine proper.
Below is a shot of the pipes fairing, which covered the pipes from the upper wing centre section down to the decking panel.
It was made of linen, wrapped around the three pipes and stitched at the trailing edge. It was meant to give some environmental protection for the fuel and coolant pipes inside.
I've modified this to have the angled slot, through which the left cabane strut cross-bracing wire passed. Also I've added the fourth exposed pipe line, which is not supplied in the kit.
Not all Spad XIII's retained this fairing as I guess it restricted the pilot's view. However the Spad of Frank Luke I'm making had the fairing fitted.
