WNW Sopwith Dolphin 1/32nd scale. 19 Squadron RAF: Pheon Decals
« on: December 30, 2017, 01:18:56 AM »
So I have decided to do a separate thread on this one. When released I will use the Pheon Decals(on pre order), to do Irvings 19 sq. bird with the blue nose and upper tail surfaces. I will probably add the Camel to this as a Dual build eventually  ::)

Thanks Mark. Your build is paving the way and giving great tips on building the kit!

Looking forward to your build.  good looking color scheme - the blue will look great against the green.

Took me a while to find those decals at the Pheon site. In the "News" section. Nice scheme and I look forward to your work on this one!

Cheers,
Alistair

I started the interior yesterday and have a question. WNW says to paint the bottom of the cockpit section between the wings wood and silver/aluminum. Do they mean silver/aluminum floor with wood formers, or wood floor with the molded on bracing wires being silver? I will post photos later today or tomorrow.

Great scheme you've chosen Rick, my first choice as well! I will, however, have to do one of the 1 Squadron Canadian Air Force aircraft as well, and have pre-ordered both Decal Sets. My first Kit arrived a few days ago; I'll be following your progress with keen interest as you get settled into this Build.
I'd guess the floor is wood however that's just a guess at this point.
Cheers,
Lance

Hi Rick, in one of my books I have a picture of the cockpit of the replica Dolphin that flew at Old Rhinebeck for several years. It appears that under the 2 floorboards the floor was aluminum. The picture comes from Mike Vines' "Wind in the Wires." Hope it helps!

Perfect, Thanks a lot! As this is how I originally interpreted the directions it means I don't have to re paint  8)

SO it has been a while since I started this thread. My Pheon Decals arrived the other day and are as well done as expected:

This is the aircraft I have chosen to do. Probably the alternative without the entire rear fuselage being blue.

and what I have done to date on the kit. Not much done but the decals arrival has inspired me to get to work!

Rick, I somehow missed this first time round - was looking for your Albatros builds. This is going to be another of your builds to watch - certainly you have made a very good start.

Stephen.
