Morane-Saulnier Type N

As promised I will start now a build thread for my finished model, see
https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=9108.0

Lets start with box content!

A nice picture on the kit:

This kit is from 2004, but very rare now.

Not to much parts for a fast build.

Engine was replaced by a Small Stuff Le Rhone 80hp.

Precut masks:

Decals, please note the weathering metallic ones:

The two possible markings:

As I wrote already I used PE from the Profipack of that kit:

The manual (for the PE I had to check the Profipack variant too).

The Windsock Datafiles are always helpful for creation of nice details, here the 58:

In next update I will show the cockpit details.

Cheers,
Frank

Morane-Saulnier Type N, Eduard 1/48, 13.12.2017 - Cockpit

Cockpit

The cockpit is beautiful and shows a lot details. I painted the floor and seat with acryl to save some time (instead of oils).

The PE contains seat belts, but I used some from the new Eduard Steel-Set "French belts", because the are very thin, are great to handle and prepainted.

I painted the single "clocks" with brass (MRP and Alclad), added decals and glued the PE rings with  Kristal Klear to have also some glass effect.

the finished cockpit prepared for mounting.

I painted inside with linen and added some "wooden bars" with painting.

Cheers,
Frank

Morane-Saulnier Type N, Eduard 1/48, 15.12.2017 - Undercarriage
« Reply #5 on: December 15, 2017, 07:40:06 PM »
Thank you K!

I really like your topics!
This simply depends on kits available in 1/48 ;)

Let's continue with
Undercarriage

Let's start with a little riddle: what's that?

No, this are not 3 tubes for the gear axles. The answer is: "No."
So I build that detail with nickel silver tubes. Instead of gluing the plastic one to the struts the outer ones are longer the hold later the suspension.
The middle V-strut has breached - was to short anyway.

So here are my snipped self-made "PE" ...

... and soldered on HSS drill shafts:

On the outer ones I soldered flattened brass pipes to get a new V-strut:

The parts for the undercarriage are prepared fro mounting:

The typical undercarriage with two two tubes and half axles between. The suspension, made from stretched sprue, is located outside. So it stays on ground more correctly and not with one's legs apart as with kit parts.

The tail skid with "suspension" made from wire:

Mounted with the PE parts from kit:

Frank

Frank that's a beautiful and instructive thread.
Very clever solutions, although not all at my reach, especially the metalworks.

I'm looking forward for more!

Thank you my friends!
The finished model is in the completed section, but to show here a progress is still a lot of work! I have to check and work on the big amount of pictures and write some useful text. A subassembly a day is possible ;)
During a build such report is somehow easier, because it's a recreation, something different to the modeling work.
But if you like it so much it is worth the effort!

Cheers,
Frank

Morane-Saulnier Type N, Eduard 1/48, 16.12.2017 Tail assembly
« Reply #11 on: December 16, 2017, 08:41:05 PM »
Thank you, my friends!

Andreas, in the first post you see the painting guide of this french red one. May be this is wrong, I don't know.

Tail assembly

The connection between both elevators is very thin, fragile and should be glued to the end of the fuselage?! There are also 4 small horns.
For transportation to exhibitions I want to have it more robust, so cut and drilled small hole for brass rod.

Attention, a small kit error: there are 4 outlets on upper and lower side, but only on the upper side 4 are needed, because  the rudder is only controlled from upper side.

I created a new construction for holding the elevator. Same was done already for my Morane-Saulnier type-L where I had good pictures:

I assume a comparable construction here because the manufacturer is identical.

Mounted on the fuselage, the brass rod will go through the tube.

With elevator:

The plastic shows some ribs representation, which I shadowed a bit.

The rudder was cut and new hinges are created.

After decal on the rudder I added all linkages. This is easier with elevator not yet mounted.

The elevators are painted using the kit provided masks.

In next update I will show the rotary engine.

Cheers,
Frank

Frank,
That interior is drop dead Gorgeous! The floor is incredible, looks like dirty oily wood to me! The work you did on the gear legs and tail are equally impressive! Again it is great to see the route t the beautiful finished product you presented!
