This model will be finished in the scheme depicted on the box art, a 46 Squadron aircraft flown by Canadian 54 Victory Ace Major Donald R. Maclaren for his last 9 kills. It is notable that MacLaren achieved his 54 Official Victories in just 7 months of combat flying as a member of 46 Squadron on the Western Front. I had the honour of meeting this Gentleman and conversing briefly with him in 1983 at a formal military function, an experience I will always treasure! A modest and soft spoken man so humble in representing his heroic war service, I will always remember him as a great representative of a generation of similar young heroes who went off to a terrible war never doubting nor questioning the call to duty, and I sincerely extend that compliment to those of both sides of the conflict.

To this point I've cleaned up the cockpit components and will begin the painting and detailing over the next several days. It looks like an excellent Kit thus far, up to Wingnut's normal stellar quality, and I'm looking forward to the Build.

I excited at the thought of following your progress through this project, Lance. I know it will be up to your usual very high standards. I intend to do MacLaren's bus myself, only in 1/48 scale. I'm looking forward to seeing how you will approach the prominent oil erosion of the dope on the port side of the fuselage. I plan on using my shaving cream trick on mine.

I am looking forward to your build. Like Bud said I am sure it will be up to your usual very High standards! Funny thing here, I actually pulled out my Clerget Camel about an hour ago thinking about making it my next build

Your shaving cream is my hair spray............amazing as both techniques have proved! Rick, go for it; I'm amazed that after all off the hype and anticipation we've seen so little in the way of Camel Builds. Time to "open the sluices at both ends" as Monty Python put it! Looks like another winner from Richard, Sir Peter, and the rest of the Staff at Wingnuts!

The Canadian Group Build may be in the works if only at my bench; I have the Clerget Version which is destined to be done as Barker's B 6313, and another in the Duellist's Set that would look good in Alexander's Naval 10 stripes, and maybe there's room for a Bentley Version to honour Roy Brown, and then, and then..................

So, first step on the Build, and I discover the Barracuda Resin wicker seat I was going to use is much wider then the Kit seat. In fact the kit seat internal width is 11.5 mm which scales out at 14.5 inches...............very small bottomed Pilots only! The Barracuda seat is, at minimum, 13.5 mm wide (inside) which scales out to a standard chair width.

On previous Kits the seats were larger then the Barracuda ones, now the reverse appears to be the case. I'd really prefer the Barracuda seat, the "open" wicker around the back piece really sets it off, it's a magnificent bit of molding however, given the tight cockpit, I don't want to generate any fit problems by replacing the Kit seat. Here's a couple of comparison shots, the white seat being the resin Barracuda version. As you can see there is quite a difference in width.........

Has anyone completed the cockpit and can verify that the wider seat would fit for sure? My efforts at "dry fitting" have proven inconclusive........ $:-\$

Thanks for that Guy. I figured the Barracuda version would work by the fit of it to the frame and floor board part, the width appeared "just OK". I'll plan to use it in lieu of the Kit version then.

I hope Lance doesn't mind my asking about the seat. Did you cut away the Molded on cushion or remove the bottom from the Barracuda seat?

Barracuda is coming out with a new seat just for the Camel with pads.
