The work needed to distress the paintwork is really worthwhile Lance. This should look very convincing indeed when finished. And who is bothered if it takes a little longer - the result wil be worth it.

Stephen.

Thanks Terri. If this slow but persistent snow doesn't stop soon I may never get back to the workbench instead of a snow scoop! I always look forward to more modelling time in the Winter but this is a bad start!! :-\ ::)

I love weathered airplanes and you are building a wonderfull representation of a heavy weathered Camel. That's mouthwatering to start a Camel on my own...

I made some progress yesterday after a marathon of snow clearing and house chores. The decals are completed on the fuselage and weathered to match the distressed paint scheme of the aircraft. The peeled paint areas on the inner lower wings were expanded a small amount to match the reference photos as well. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of colour the decals add, the profiles of this aircraft appeared very "plain". The dusty looking spots at the wing/fuselage joint just behind the step panels are sanding dust from the lower fuselage/wing joint underneath, they have since been cleaned off!

I've also completed most of the wing decals. On these I've kept the wear to a minimum, just enough to not overly contrast with the severely weathered and worn fuselage. The wing markings will require some post shading to stay consistent with the highlighted main surfaces and I need to add the aileron inspection ports covers as well.

I hope to find time today to complete the Post Shading.
Cheers,
Lance

Greetings Lance.

That is the nicest bit of vandalism I've seen for ages!  ;D

Very effective too.  :)

Courageous work that level of weathering is. Brilliantly done - I'd never have the guts to try it!

Snow clearing? Cold Lake? Sounds like a courageous place to live as well!

Cheers,
Alistair

Thank you Alistair, I need a vote of confidence at this stage as I keep thinking I may have gone too far on the wear and tear. As for the "place to live" they don't call it COLD Lake for no reason, as the locals say! ;)
Cheers,
Lance
