Thank you all!

Fuselage

Let's continue ...

The fuselage was closed, the lower wing glued and the tail planes added, after removing/reconnecting the control surfaces.
Additionally I rounded the transition from wing to fuselage with putty.

The resin struts are very filigree so I have to mount them with 0,3mm brass wire. So the huge openings in the wings are closed with stretched sprue.

The state after a lot of work: the fuselage is primed white, the wing grey (both Alclad). PE added and the engine cover panel painted with dark alu.

The other side. This machine had no guns, so I closed the openings with a new brass sheet, cut out following the outline of a PE (but the PE has holes for the guns).

Some PE parts also for the underside:

Wings and fuselage painted with Alclad semi matt alu. Due to different prime color the wing is darker now.

Looks a more modern fighter with just one wing  ;)

Some detail.

The middle wings showed moderate quality after first white primer, so I closed holes and other problems with Gunze surfacer.

After two additional layers of white primer it looks ok to me.

After a lot of masking and painting the shadows are prepared.

After painting with MRP Clear Doped Linen the ribs are still visible on upside.

From the below the ribs and spars are visible. You see also the different look of wings compared to the middle.

That's the actual result:

Don't forget to go to start of this thread for picture comparison :)

Bughunter

Thank you all!
The next update will need some time, because the filigree struts are somehow *censored*! This needs dry-fitting again and again.
Complete new struts should be considered, make it more robust and more to scale (thinner). I had no idea for a new material over the weekend.

Cheers,
Frank

Frank,

Great subject. I just wish I could see the pics! They're blank for me - obviously ok for everyone else?

Any ideas?

I agree with all the above. I think it's the CDL effect that I like most among all these numerous highlights of your model. The subtle effect of bright ribs from the upperside and dark ribs from below is done masterfully.

Thank you for your interest!

The last post with pics is from 2nd of July. Sometimes a reload of the page in browser helps, if a picture is missing.

I think it's the CDL effect that I like most among all these numerous highlights of your model. The subtle effect of bright ribs from the upperside and dark ribs from below is done masterfully.
I tried to replicate the light on all my models, with different level of success. The method is different, if the the upperside is not linen but painted as on my Pup. Then the lower ribs have to be bright as the upper side here. Checking original pictures is always helpful.
In meantime I have also shadowed the lower alu-grey wing, more (and new pictures)in the next update.

Cheers,
Frank

Biplane

Next update ...

Wings are prepared for shadowing with Gunze Smoke

Below you need less tape

Resin struts are prepared with brass, and then dryfitting, dryfitting ....

Elevator is painted:

Ribs are shadowed, ailerons is painted and decals are applied.

After Future the decals on Fuselage and tail:

The struts. Still a bit thick. If you follow, please consider a complete replacement. Takes may be less effort.
Brass wires and some PE added.

The upper wing has a different cutout, there is a resin part, but need a lot of filling and sanding.

After gray primer it is no more visible.

The middle part of the upper wing is done, with cooler and tank.

Below, here some PE parts are missing.

The axle was to thin for the wheels, so I replaced it with brass parts.

The gear struts are very fragile, added some brass wire put it temporarily to the fuselage for gluing

The struts and the middle wing are mounted (now its a biplane), the upper wing need still some work, details and painting.

Not so far to start of rigging ...

Cheers,
Frank
