1/48 Roden Junkers D1 long fuselage
« on: November 06, 2016, 08:53:01 PM »
Time for another build. This time moving down a scale to 1/48 with the D1. Looking at it initially it seems to be a very nice kit although I can see the camouflage painting will be a challenge.
Initial pictures of decals and sprues.

 Toby,
You certainly have a knack of choosing interesting projects my friend. I've always thought the Rodden  Junker DI was an outstanding kit. I'm glad you're building this seldom modeled kit. Looking forward to following along. The best of luck to you Toby.
Highest Regards,

Engine now completed. Vallejo Aluminium and Tamiya Gun metal with a umber and black wash.

The seat is comprised of two pieces and one has to be heated to fit. Rather an odd arrangement methinks.

Not the best result and if I can't make it right I'll use this alternative from Barracuda. Primarily for an Albatros but close enough.

You have made an excellent start Toby - never mind about the seat as it will hardly be seen on the completed model.

That's a great start, Toby! That engine is really impressive, and the seat will do just fine! I think the great challenge in this kit is to get the decals to fit and sit over the corrugations... if you look at my thread on the short fuselage Roden kit you will see lots of approaches and advice... don't be shy, just go for it! Regards, Marc

Started work on the interior frame work with a dry run fitting of the engine.

IP made using various instrument decals of 1/48 and 1/72.
I just didn't want it to be too bare and  haven't bothered about the accuracy of them as you'd need a microscope to find out what they are anyway ;D

Trying to align the internal framework takes time and patience and modification as some of the attachment points are way off. Attaching the fuselage sides will be done in stages as it will require some "bending" to get a good fit.
