Yes Lance it does look a bit dark doesn't it - I may have overdone it a bit but I'll stick with it now and see how it develops.

Borsos - a bit of both really. I am hoping that the metal and wood areas will have a slight difference to the fabric areas and yes it is mainly for weathering and exposing the surface beneath. Again, it's a matter of seeing if it works.

I've been leaf gathering this morning - I'm plagued with endless oak leaves  at this time of year so it's a matter of keeping on top of them and getting them composted but now I'm off to break open that jar of PC10

Your undersurface painting and decaling have really turned out to be perfect, IMHO! I envy those of you with the patience for pre shading and I am really looking forward to seeing the results on the uppers.  Sorry if I missed this but are you using a WNW suggestion for your CDL and PC10?

Hi Guys - the top coats haven't come out too bad (not finished as yet and no pics at this stage) so thanks for your interest.

Rick - I usually preshade on every model so don't conciously think about it now, it just seems part of the process  - the 'base' PC10 is a 50/50 mix of Tamiya Khaki Drab and Olive Drab. I sprayed this on as mixed but felt it could have a slightly greener tinge so went over it with that mix plus some Tamiya olive green. Putting it next to the Camel which was done with the former colours it just about has the greener shade  in contrast which I was aiming for. Once it's had some oil wash over it it should look just right - to my eye that is  I have a feeling it was either you or George who put me in that direction. BTW, the roundels and code are not decals but masked and sprayed  - or was that a generic term?

I'll try and get some pics after dinner if not, tomorrow

I took these this evening - still some tweaking on highlights here and there to do but these show the current state

This was using flash which has bleached it out some - it's a much darker colour


This is just using the workshop fluorescent lighting and is more indicative


All the fabric covered areas have had a fine mist of Kleer to seal them - you can just see a hint of the slight sheen that that creates here. The 'metal' areas have been painted with a slightly differing hue of the basic 'PC10' with a drop of Tamiya gloss Clear added to give a different sheen.


The difference is more readily seen in this pic - the cowl and other metal areas will be lightly wet polished with micro mesh 6000 to expose the ali paint below.


So far I'm pleased with the outcome - it appears to be going in the right direction

Hope to get those top markings on tomorrow

I have been playing with this method for some time now , not on every subject . But , I  do like the results of it once the finally colours are apply .

Nice contrast effect metal to fabric Tug, you've more then reproduced that particular characteristic. It's looking very very nice so far, I'm looking forward to more! Wingnut Wings really produced a winner with this Kit and you are doing it tremendous justice on this thread!

PC 10 in this case stands for Perfect Color 10  Lovely variances in the fabric and metal/wood ares! Beautiful work and well worth all of your effort!

Juan, Terri, Lance and Rick - thanks for looking in and very pleased to hear your comments on how it's going. Seeing it sit in front of you and thinking it looks okay is one thing but hearing that your peers feel the same is encouraging - thanks guys

Very little today - it really has been one of those days. First the shower went into self destruct followed by a very frustrating time trying to work out why I couldn't get on line. After the usual time wasting phone call attempts to the provider - "please contact us online for help" type messages nothing left for this 'thicko where computers are concerned' but a trip to the shop - Windows 10 upgrade last night probably the culprit - Oh no it wasn't - finally traced to a malfunctioning router - Aaaagh .

So - just managed to start painting the fuse roundel - hopefully all will be well tomorrow

Alistair - nice to see you here as well. Bear in mind I'm also still learning - this 1/32 WWI is a new genre for me too but the trick is not to allow thoughts of so much to learn put you off trying. 'One step at a time' and try to make an improvement each time is a good practice I try to adopt

Well after the day spent fixing a new shower head and frustrating myself on this thing I've had a very quite and pleasant day ensconced in the warmth of the workshop

This morning I masked and sprayed the fuselage markings and this afternoon got those top wing roundels in place

This is the Code letter going on - in hindsight I think it could have been a bit thicker in form but when I drew it out and did a paper cut out to try it seemed okay - have to live with it now.


It's also a bit too distant from the roundel according to the one image I have but again - it's a bit finite at this stage:


Or maybe the roundel is a bit to far forwards  - it's made the same size as the kit decals but could only just fit there without an overlap on the lacing


The top wing first masking removal - always an anxious moment


Just need to swipe some micro mesh 6000 over these and pop the 'H' code on then tone everything down a tad to take that stark whiteness out but that won't be before Sunday at the earliest.


Well that's another step forward on this particular journey - a very enjoyable kit to put together.
