Once again, thanks to all for the encouraging words!!
Following IanB's & PrezemoL's advice, I applied the decals, then the control horns. I attached them to the wing with Future, then followed up with another coat or two, which explains the glossiness of the wings at this stage.

Over the weekend, I glued the rudder on & applied the remainder of the decals to the body. I used small strips of aluminum foil for the hinges here, as well as on the ailerons. A great tip I learned here  from Vincent & others. This is an earlier photo when I was working things out.

The decals are pretty intense at this point, but will be hopefully toned down with washes & a bit of weathering. The crazy thing is that some parts of the Eduard decals are matte & other parts glossy. So after decal application, I applied a few coats of Future to try & even things out, plus add more protection for upcoming steps.

If you haven`t built any models since 1968 - you`ve wasted sooo much time cause you are a truly gifted modeller!
Beautiful build - your 72 can easily compete with a lot of 1/32 models. Chapeu bas man!
Best regards
Filip

Ha! Warren, give me a break!
Thanks to all, you guys are great!!

xmald, I haven't built a WWI aircraft since 1968. I built quite a few models as a kid after that. As an adult, I built two WWII planes in the mid '80's, but didn't build anything again until 1999. During the past 16 years, I've mainly built traditionally styled custom cars.

Lovely cars, Steve. But it is mostly your Albatros that draws my attention and triggers "wow" after "wow" after "wow"...

Just superb in this classic scale, Steve. Your skills with brush and pencil are superior to most mere mortals.
The finish on those cars is unbelievable. Good photography, as well.
Cheers

Thanks again for the kind words!! I know the cars don't fit here, but I didn't want to mislead anyone into thinking that I hadn't built a model since 1968.

This weekend, I spent some some time adding stains & other discolorations. It was a learning thing, trying to walk the fine line between factory fresh & well worn in battle. It's a bit overdone in some places, but I'll keep trying. I also added little bits of wire to represent the springs to hold the cowl parts together. They still need to be toned down.

I added the footstep on this side of the nose, but I'm wondering if it should be painted blue like the stripe?

I still need to add another hatch down here in front of the wing.

Just to see what things looked like, I added the tail skid for this photo.
