So impressive, Dan. I'm really enjoying following the build and learning so much from it.

Best wishes
Nigel

This is really coming on well. I remember the kit being a nice one to build in the Dark Ages of the late 1960's, and it seems to have worn well. In your hands it seems to be wearing even better! The upgrade of the engine is brilliant - really adds a realistic touch.

With reference to the skids I think that they were all wood - at least that was the conclusion that i came to by studying the photos that I could find. There were about 12 of these built however so it is possible that metal was used on at least one machine - I could not be sure from what I saw on the photos.

Thanks, Guys...and I appreciate the help. Stephen on the skid supports.  I too have come to the conclusion that they were likely wood so I'm leaving them.

I just got back from celebrating with my family since it was my wife's birthday on the 16th!  Now I'll get down to some models for the evening and hopefully post some progress.

Thanks again, all...Dan

As promised...here are my masked "AVRO" letters for the bottom wing.  They are not perfect...I doubt the originals were either...but they do look pretty cool and help dress this little lady up a bit!  :-*

A bit of touch up, but I like it!

On to the radiator and fuel line...

Dan, in my opinion the letters give the plane a more realistic flavor, in any case I appreciate very much the whole work you are doing on this bird!

Thanks, Antonio!  I always look for replies from your colorful SVA avatar  ;)

Here is the top wing started (on the cabanes) and my new radiator with plumbing.  I made it from stretched sprue and my wife suggested some old tea bags she had that have a fine weave.  They are still out of scale, but certainly hint at a radiator.  They even get plugged (with paint)!  The pictures I've seen make the radiator seem almost see-through.

In this last shot, you can see my fuel line complete with anti-vibration coils!  I wonder if that REALLY worked???

Cheers and full steam ahead!

Dan

Lovely work with the underwing masking Dan, the lettering certainly adds character to the model, and you are doing great work with the engine and radiator.

That lettering looks really good - not all machines had it (or not all of the time) but I really think that you have got it right. As you suggest the original was probably not perfect either. The radiator looks really good too and I especially like the anti-vibration loops in the fuel line - they are so obvious in photos but they do add that realistic touch.

Thanks, Ernie, Stephen, Des, Antonio and RAGIII!  Here is a bit of the rigging.  I got the controls in, the cabanes and started the landing skid rigging.  Tomorrow I'll do more and also attach the interplanes.  What a neat little machine this is!

Moving along now!  And here is the young man (my son Peter) who got me this kit for Father's Day!

Cheers to all and have a great weekend...Dan

It was a very elegant aeroplane for its time - which is why I chose to scratch build one - in my opinion it was the best of the Inpact series from an aesthetic point of view. The rigging looks really good - when complete it will really make this into a first class model.

PS bet you are pleased that your son does not have to fly one of those things in the background - bad enough that your father had to.
