Many thanks for your support, Juan, Borsos and Jeroen, it is highly appreciated!
The ribs on the upper surfaces did not work out well, unfortunately. Therefore I have to give them a second try. While removing the masking tape, a few ribs and half-ribs on the leading edge simply peeled off, but I reckon I know where I went wrong. I diluted the surfacer with the blue thinner, instead of the yellow levelling thinner. I guess the primer dried way too fast to bond to the surface and rather stuck to the masking tape. Nevermind, the slow and steady wins the race, right?

The good news is that I am getting better in applying the mask with the practice, so it took me just this weekend to get ready for the second round.
As masking is really rather demanding for the eyes, I had to take a few breaks, during which I assembled the exhaust pipes with the cylinder heads and made a dry fit test. Looks quite satisfactory, the whole fuselage will have to get a slight sanding. Learning for the next build - creating ribs will be one of the first steps, as the dust from the surfacer sticks to surrounding surfaces.
Cheers
