I am STILL trying to get my head around the size of this model….. What you are doing is truly miraculous, wonderful, staggering, and I could go on……..

Many thanks to all of you for your nice and encouraging comments!

I disassembled the fuselage and the wings, the next step will be scribing the fuselage and several touch ups on the wings.

Meanwhile I painted both machine guns with gunmetal (polishable paste from a local producer called Agama).

The Lewis will get drybrush with lighter metalizer, perhaps the details will be better visible.




Sorry for the quality of the pictures, these parts are really tiny.

Many thanks for following the build and for your support, Steve and Stephen!

Today I moved on slightly with the fuselage, I continued with scribing and added a few details.






The upper wing got a few touch ups and the pipes added.



I also made thin stripes of self adhesive aluminium foil riveted with 0,4 mm Rossie the Riveter tool. With these stripes I would like to replicate the stitching on the fuselage. Will see what it will look like.

A little progress on the fuselage today, I added a few details and made the first dry fit test for the cylinder heads. Looks quite satisfactory.



Then I started fiddling around on the stitching. I used paper master in scale to mark the correct position on the fuselage




Afterwards I applied the riveted stripes of self adhesive aluminium foil. I am curious to see what it will look like after primer.

This is continuing to be an awesome scratch build Ondra! Very clever idea for the stitching. Like you I am looking forward to seeing the outcome once you apply the primer!

Thank you very much, Rick. I would like to turn the S.E.5a into my best build so far, as she is the kite of my heart. Actually S.E.5a brought me to WWI modelling after I had seen the movie Aces high. :)

Today I started working on the undercarriage and made the struts using same method as for the interplane struts. It will not be 100 % according to the original, but I have found no easy solution for this and very little will remain visible behind the wheels.



The rest of the day I spent on adding details to the fuselage. To my big surprise, I found out from the photos of the original planes and flying replicas there were quite many details there. :)

Nice work on those details! For the adhesive foil, are you using a product like Bare Metal Foil or something thicker?
