She's turning into a real work of art Des. Superb workmanship!

Excellent work on the wings, Des.  I like the technique.

i see what you mean des, i think the underside of this part of the wing was uncovered too, so as the rib extensions were exposed.what a stunning looking model this is becoming.

Thanks guys for all your kind words.

Scott - All the photo reference and datafile plans I have for this particular plane I am building do not show any part of the underside of the wing as being uncovered. Other variants of the Taube may have had this feature but my Jeannin Taube 180/14 did not. The only section of the wing which has no covering is a small area next the the fuselage, this was left open to give the pilot and observer better visibility.

When I think about it, if a section of the wing was left uncovered that part of the wing would not have aerodynamic properties, drag would be increased and performance reduced, I can't see any benefit for leaving parts of a wing uncovered, it defeats the whole concept of a wing.

Hi Des,

amazing work and incdedible craftmanship. Being so impressed of your work I have searched my photo library and posted some pics of the Jeannin Stahltaube at the "Deutsches Technik Museum", Berlin.

Thanks Dirk for posting the photos of the Taube, I have been using reference photos from the museum for my build. The example on show is a restored machine and is fairly close to what the original was like, I was lucky enough to have Jamo, one of our members, lend me a book which covers the restoration of that particular aircraft, it came in extremely useful. I also followed Datafile 104 which is full of period photos and plans, without this information the project would not have got off the ground.

I have one wing nearly completed, I added the warping section of the wing. These photos show the beautiful shape of the wing which makes the Taube really stand out, one photo shows the washout I built into the warping section. I made this section of the wing using two layers of 0.5mm styrene sheet, they were cut to shape then glued together, while the glue was still wet I formed the washout, then allowed the glue to set, once dry the wing retained it's shape. I then added the ribs and scallops. The wing has had only one light coat of paint to highlight any flaws which might exist. I still need to add all the rigging to the wing, this will be done once both wings are fixed to the fuselage.

The addition of that warping section of the wing certainly adds real beauty to this bird Des. It's going to be spectacular looking when you get both wings installed and fully rigged. I'm looking forward to seeing the rigging, so keep your nose to the grindstone, and get 'er done!  ;D

Cheers,

Chris
